Re: NI B4 does not load
I spoke w/ a tech at NI who was very helpful. He stated that even though B4 works as standalone, it won't work as a plug-in. With SL, the Rosetta app allows for the functionality of a pre-Intel app, but even if the software item is in the proper AU location, it won't run. He advised me that B4 won't...

Re: NI B4 does not load
Is it not selected in the DP Audio Plug-ins preferences? If it is selected and still not showing up, try rebuilding the DP Audio Unit Info Cache . Delete it here ~/Library/Preferences/Digital Performer and it will be rebuilt on the next DP startup. It does not appear in the DP Audio Plug-ins Prefs ...

NI B4 does not load
I reinstalled NI B4 on my laptop: DP7.22, OS 10.6.8, MBP 2x2.53 i5, 4G RAM B4 doesn't load during the DP startup splash display. I don't see it in any menus (project/add instrument track, or Tracks output column). B4 works fine as standalone. NI website states that it was updated for use with Intel....

Re: A long forgotten trick
In the Sequence Editor, click the soundbite you want to change, then click its name in the event info bar. A drop down window will list all soundbites. Click to choose new soundbite, then OK, or dbl clk your selection.

Re: questions re installing DP7
For those who are using an older version of DP (4.5), and are experiencing crash on quit, the isight plugin may be an issue. Tech note from Motu website:

questions re installing DP7
I've acquired a Macbook Pro (6,2) which is a bit of a change from the now defunct G5 (PPC, OS4.11, DP4.61). I'll be working with OS 10.6.6 & DP 7.21 (might go to 7.22 later). I'm going to search through the DP tip sheet, but if someone can provide answers to a few questions, it might save some t...

Re: is Time Machine best BU option?
Thanks for your input, guys. I've got a lot of info to digest as I'm moving from a G5 (now deceased) PPC OS4.11, DP4.6 to Intel OS6.6, DP7.21. Also, this is a laptop; I've already worked through the interface stuff (mult displays, FW chain, etc.) so now I need to work out the nuts and bolts of backu...

is Time Machine best BU option?
I'm setting up a new (used) macbook pro (6,2) (2x2.53, 4G). I've done a lot of reading, but among question that remain... Is Time Machine the best option for backups? Some say CCC is good, some don't like TM, etc. I bought a new 1G FW external drive for backups and/or TM. Ready to partition and am c...

Re: fees for local tv theme
Thanks Mike, the fee proposals went reasonably well in that I will receive what I had determined to be an approximate value. The producer/director confirmed my figures and also advised me what to expect in terms of usage/license fees.
I did some research and am going to go with ASCAP.

Re: fees for local tv theme
Thanks, MLC. I understand there's no set rate - it's anything goes. Wide open to negotiation within the parameters of budget, etc. So I start with a guesstimate framework and see what the budget would allow. I need to figure out what my time and energy is worth to me, and sell it on that value. I do...

fees for local tv theme
I've been asked to write the intro/close music for a local tv show; Sunday morning talk/panelists/interview. It will be broadcast locally, Mid-west city, #17 TV market. Possible broadcast state-wide via cable channel. What sort of fee(s) should I be looking for? I've written the :30 for the intro, t...

Re: gate/expander/compressor & sibilance
Ian, I looked at the Dan Dugan stuff, very good concept. He's got the right idea. A bit out of our price range, but it would certainly be appropriate for high-quality/high-end production facilities. http://www.dandugan.com/Products/Dugan_Model_D-2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);retu...

Re: gate/expander/compressor & sibilance
Thanks for your replies, I will look into your suggestions. We are recording live to tape into the Tricaster, so the short story is that outboard gear is the option I'm looking into. The Audia software doesn't have an interface which allows for 3d party plugins, and while it does feature pre-configu...

gate/expander/compressor & sibilance
I'm working in a small production studio where we are producing spoken word and video content. We have a software-based audio processing system (Biamp Audia/Nexia). It seems oriented toward the task of PA/signal routing but it's not really strong on overcoming this problem: the beginning and ending ...
