WOW... well thats dumb! I took the card out and noticed that the card itself was not sitting straight in the PCI slot. Installed with the thumb screw against the chassis means that the back end of the card sits too high up, so pushing it down flush pulls the silver plate away from the mounting brack...

I get a bit annoyed when newbies jump on a forum and ask dumb questions, but here I am probably making people's eyes roll! I've been a MOTU abuser since the original MTP (not sure what that has to do with anything!) and just picked up a PCIe-424, 24io & 2408mkIII package from a friend to install...
