Just updated the firewire driver as per the link you sent me and so far so good, seems to have done the trick. Wasn't able to test it for too long, hopefully it's a perm solution.

Motu have a bit of work to do to correct window 7 issues when connecting via USB or they should at least mention it as a known issue.
