Re: Why is my 4pre installation so unreliable?
Lol, that is a very good story though...indeed, anyone can make mistakes... So I changed my 9 pin to 6 pin FW cable again and didn't have a "disconnection" problem ever since...and I had paid 30$ for that other cable...but now it works fine. Morale is: Never assume a brand new cable is fla...

Oh and yes of course about controlling the sub's volume with the MOTU volume...I thought you were reffering to something else.

Re: Connecting an active subwoofer to MOTU 4pre
I know what you mean but I checked with the sales person (quite knowledgeable dude, known him for more than 25 years) I got it from and he told me it was line level input. I bought this unit second hand so maybe at the time it was made, they didn't provide L-R inputs because a sub is mono in itself ...

Re: Why is my 4pre installation so unreliable?
Don't worry, I know about cables and I connected it the right way, it's just that it's not rock solid like audio connectors for example...more on the loose side...

Re: Connecting an active subwoofer to MOTU 4pre
Hi again, I think I may have found the most straight forward and efficient way tu plug both my subwoofer and Rane Stereo Headphone console... Since the 3-4 line outs of the 4pre are 1/4" TRS and the inputs of the Rane unit 1/4" TRS as well, this is surely the simplest way to go. As for the...

Re: Why is my 4pre installation so unreliable?
Thanks torrentg for that info, I was not aware of those things. I generally use Chrome for it's faster or Firefox but Chrome most of the time. I think I also pin pointed what could be part of, if not the problem itself for that instability. Recently, I found that when the drivers are "disconnec...

Why is my 4pre installation so unreliable?
Hello people, If anyone can help... I had lots of issues with this installation and finally my 4pre had been working flawlessly for a couple of weeks. Now and since a few days, for god knows what reason, it keeps crashing on me all the time!! Weither it's when I listen to some i.e. youtube stuff or ...

torrentg wrote: "If you're talking about splitting each the 3 and 4 to both have 2 outputs instead of the one coming out the MOTU" Yes, this is exactly what I meant. It's a Kef subwoofer...Yes, it seems like you could come out of an amp or receiver (L-R speaker level outs) with regular spe...

Re: Connecting an active subwoofer to MOTU 4pre
After a little investigation, I found that the rca type "Subwoofer Input" is a line level input and has nothing to do with s/pdif. If I didn't want to clutter my 4pre front panel with extra wires, I was suggested to use 1/4" Y connectors to come out of the line 3-4 outs right and left...

Re: Connecting an active subwoofer to MOTU 4pre
Thank you very much "torrentg", using s/pdif and headphones outputs is a solution I have not thought about(obviousely) and in addition, I realise that I should have given more precise details about the subwoofer i/o capabalities. There are binding post (banana) type speaker level i/o for l...

Connecting an active subwoofer to MOTU 4pre
Hello everyone, I have my 4pre up and running with 2 active studio monitors connected to the Main 1-2 outs. The Line 3-4 outs will feed a headphone distribution module. I got myself an active subwoofer which of course, has a phono sub input. My question, what would be the most effective way to get t...

Re: MOTU 4pre, problems installing hardware/drivers
A little update from my last post, after my last reboot, I tried lo listen to some mp3s and the MOTU 4pre disconnected itself from the "device manager" - "Sound".
Now it does not come back when I reboot anymore...

Dan
