Favourite OST Cues
Just curious as to what peoples favourite cues are? Also do you tend to find you like pieces in a similar style? I tend to, which is really why I'm here, I want to listen to something a little different. I find it difficult to explain the similarities in the pieces I enjoy most, maybe someone here m...

Re: Which Comes First - Picture or Music?
But I do feel that the best music is that which stands on its own. I think two examples of original music written for a film which stand perfectly well on their own. Two of my favourites I should point out, are: Journey To The Line by Zimmer, from the Thin Red Line. And The Grand Finale from Edward...

Re: Intro and 828mk2 : Windows question
Right I'm 99% certain that what I want is a MOTU 828 Mk2. I just want to be absolutely certain it will do exactly what I want before I fork out any cash. Could you good folks here have any idea if it is capable of the following. I'd like to use CueMix to build a preset mix for when I use it as a sub...

Re: Which Comes First - Picture or Music?
I think in a perfect world a composer would write the music based on the script , screenplay and consultation with the director. The director would then play the music on set to which the editor would cut the movie. As the music is so important and emotive in many movies I think hearing the music du...

Re: Which Comes First - Picture or Music?
I'm pretty sure Terrence Malick had Hans Zimmer write about 7 or 8 hours of music for The Thin Red Line and had it playing on set while they were shooting to help the actors get the feel for each scene. And to this day it's one of my favourite films and soundtracks of all time. The "Journey to ...

Promentory - Randy Edeleman - Last of the Mohicans
Inspired by the thread above (or below) I went through a few classical playlists I have setup and heard "Promentory" from the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack by Randy Edeleman. I dunno if anyone is familiar with the piece but I'm trying to get my head around the shift in tempo and feel. It...

Re: Favorite Orchestrators and Orchestrations
Some of Cage's stuff is quite good I think.
I'll add Philip Glass to that list too.

Re: Intro and 828mk2 : Windows question
Thanks. Just out of interest, are there any other MOTU interfaces that would work in a similar way? I know the 828 is pretty much the ideal candidate so far, but are there any other boxes I should also be considering? I understand if you can't name "other brand" machines. Preamps aren't a ...

Re: Intro and 828mk2 : Windows question
Very unusual indeed. It's the standalone mode you mention that is the main reason I'm interested in the 828. I want a submixer for my live keyboard rig, but also an audio interface for my DAW. So when I read about the 828 it seemed perfect. I can use it as a front end for faffinf about at home recor...

Re: Seeking recommendations for books on Midi-Orchestration
There's a few simple guides on the Sound on Sound website too, mainly about making orchestral samples a little more realistic, as opposed to how to compose and arrange. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr00/articles/stringssamples.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec99/articles/orchestral.htm htt...
