Thanks for all the helpful replies. A Sonnet PCI-e FW card (TI chipset?) fixed the problem.

Completely reinstalled drivers. Noticed after trashing trashing everything before reinstalling the 8pre shows up in system profiler while the 828 still does not. Reinstalling drivers did not help. Any thoughts on FW chipset incompatibilities?

I've been in contact with MOTU tech support and they've been helpful but have not solved the issue. The 828 is not seen on the new computer. I'm having an issue with the 828mk2 and a new Mac Pro - it's not recognized. I also have an 8pre but that's fine using the same 800-400 cable to the same built-in fw800 port. Waiting for a reply from MOTU support...

I have a 800-400 cable that works fine with my 8pre. an adapter should do the job for you AFAIK. It should work with my 828mk2, but there must be a driver issue with the new Mac Pros - it won't recognize it. Wondering if anyone is having the same problem...
