Thanks everyone for the very thoughtful contributions here.
I have to digest the information and evaluate carefully how to approach this project
or even tone it down if I must.

Re: Record as an ensemble or individually?
Thanks for that Dwetmaster. I recently had a discussion with a violinist about
this topic and she had a very similar point about 'adjustment' and 'reaction' is where
the music really takes place. Point taken and I think the group together will be the best
choice.
Cheers

Record as an ensemble or individually?
Good evening, afternoon or morning, Just looking for some advice from some recording people with more experience than myself if they have time to address my query. I was thinking about recording a string ensemble with a four voice soprano section (this could change according to the piece) in a conte...

Re: Recording ethics: Is all fair in "fixing it in the mix?"
Interesting. I think that when it comes to using technology to complete whatever task you need to complete, do what you need to do, make it the best you can within the goals of the medium. No one needs to know how you cooked a delicious meal, you just eat and enjoy it. The fact is recording and live...

Re: Generative Electronic Music - Max/MSP+Komplete+DP
Mr. Quimper Nice one. Lot's of very interesting stuff happening in there. Particularly enjoyed the end. I think that in Max 6 (and 5) you could bypass DP completely and run it in Max using the vst~ object to send MIDI data to the vst or AU's. You could also just record it in Max directly (which I be...

I run that computer with SL and never had any problems unless
they were caused by me. You should be fine.

Re: Motu/Mac for a "dummie"
Johannes, You should have a Max Runtime Patch that someone has already built for you. (You cannot change the audio inputs and outputs directly in 'Max Runtime' without a patch). There should be an 'adc' or 'dac' object which you can double click on which will open the 'audio status' window. This wil...

Re: Final Cut XML files - How To...?
cbergm, Well I can give it a go. From what I can read you mentioned 'network' which may be the culprit. An XML file is merely a text file which makes references to A/V files. Basically, your wife may have set of A/V files which need to be on both computers before you import the XML files. Furthermor...

Nice one,
If you can't find the download, go into your soundtoys account and check your licenses. Scroll to the bottom and the download with manual should be there.
Thanks Radiogal
All the best!

Re: Coming back to D.P.
Synthnut, If I understand what you are asking correctly: 1) Yes, you will get a hard copy manual with the upgrade. 2) Is the upgrade fully featured D.P7? They will ship you DP 7.2, the latest version. Don't quote me, but I believe that it is a fully featured DP 7 which you do not need to have any pr...

Re: Recording approach advice?
Thanks for the tips HCMarkus and Nigel, Ideally I would like to mic each instrument, and will contact someone I know to try to borrow some mics. It will take some careful placement of the mics and also trying to go through the score and identify the main areas of focus in the music. If some instrume...

Recording approach advice?
Hey Folks, I am doing a recording of an ensemble (Voice, Percussion, Piano, Violin, Cello, Clarinet) doing modern, contemporary music (sometimes a huge dynamic range, sometimes nothing at all, very unpredictable) in a medium size auditorium. I was wondering, if any of you could offer some advice on ...

Re: ADR Tips?
Hi phil, I did a short film. I had to ADR the whole thing, which is an error in and of itself, but on to more important things. To deal with the situation, I had a video with punches and streamers in order to aid the person doing the voice. -The visual helped because it reminded the person of their ...

Re: Default Application
Tim, The default app. did change when I altered the name from 7.12. Now default app. is 7.2. Also, bjornin, the method described earlier, with the alt. button worked, but then it messed up once as well, I received some error message. Onyx method I never put through the grinder. Thanks all for the as...
