Static
I tried the 10 tracks test and had no problem. I have been getting random static (clicks) for over a year from DP. Still not sure how to fix it.

DP 5.1 Problem
Hi,
I had the same problem. I did all the things you are doing. After speaking to MOTU, they said I might have a bad hard drive. I was surprised but ordered one. Now everything runs fine. G5 2.0 Gig 4Gig Ram DP 5.1 OSX 10.4.8. DP 5.1 is much faster by the way.
Good luck

Re: SATA Hard Drives for G5?
I bought a LaCie external SATA drive.
My reasons were:
1) Fast read/write
2) I need my firewire buss for other things
3) Price
I believe these drives are faster than firewire.
The 10,000 RPM drives are great but max out at 74 Gb
Good luck
