While I haven't had this problem, I am using all the same FW cards. They are made by Keyspan. Don't know the model, but they have 3 external and 1 internal FW port and NO USB.

I tried something last night that helped a lot:
A friend lent me a Keyspan firewire card. While all of my cards have had the right chip and worked fine except for the noise, this one got rid of the noise almost completely.

Moving Mouse Causes Noise On Traveler
Hi there, I have a Traveler (and 2 896HDs) and they all have the same issue: moving the mouse or asking the computer to do some heavy thinking causes an electronic/static noise out of the speakers.
