8pre as a dumb mixer?

when i'm not recording or making music, i am generally running linux. i know there's no linux support for the 8pre, but can i just use it as a dumb mixer (analog-to-digital converter?) if it's not plugged into my computer? i'd like to be able to just plug in a bunch of instruments and jam without ha...

firewire expresscard and latency with 8pre

i'm thinking of buying a new laptop. unfortunately, the one i'm looking at doesn't have onboard firewire, so i figured i'd just be able to get an expresscard firewire interface for it. does anyone have a recommended one to buy? latency is (obviously) unacceptable; is that something i really have to ...

I don't even have a wifi adapter in my computer, but I did figure something out. I have three soundcards in my computer. I was using my old Sound Blaster PCI128 to go line out, convert to mono, then into the 8pre so I could use Reason in Audition without having to use ReWire (which sucks, as far as ...

8pre clicks, pops, and beeps

So I'm recording in Audition 2.0, just using my bass direct in. I laid down a few tracks and then my 8pre started clicking/popping and beeping (three times per occurrence). I then tried to go play the tracks I recorded and I was greeted with loud garbage coming out of my headphones (I have Audition ...

okay, i did try a stereo --> mono adapter (it takes 1/8" stereo and gives two mono outputs). i then just connected this to a 1/4" adapter and... what do you know? it works, no grittiness, pops or anything. i had to do some playing around with the 8pre plus the volume on the shitbox so it d...

the output from the boombox is a headphone jack. i know this seems like a really stupid thing to complain about, but i feel like it should work without issue. thanks for the reply.

8pre: mics work fine, but line in is gritty and pops

i'm just got my 8pre yesterday and i guess i'd call myself a total noob, so please don't get mad if my questions are noobish. anyway, the first thing i did when i got my 8pre was to try to record using a 1/4" stereo plug. the input comes from a bad tape boombox, so i have to use a 1/8" to ...
