Re: simpsons-ish
I anxiously await to hear more from Mr. Frodo. As for my budget, Altiverb is on the list, but right behind VSL Special Edition. I'm just using the DP Convolution reverb, and regrettably, I know nothing about "stereo image", but "smeared" sounds pretty accurate. Thanks for the fee...

Re: simpsons-ish
Frodo, One of the reasons that I froze all the tracks was to have more control over the automation aspect of the mix; a seemingly impossible task to perform on the MIDI data itself. So yes, I did do a fair amount, but was it enough? Or effective? I'm leaning towards no. Prior to freezing the MIDI tr...

Re: simpsons-ish
Thanks for listening Frodo, and for the compliments. The samples are from Kontakt2, which has a very modest amount of orchestral samples from the VSL. With the exception of the legato string samples, everything is "ensemble" size (10 to 14 players) and with only a handful of articulations....

I could definitely use some thoughts about this mix. I'm not sure what I'm doing in this regard, just trial and error.

Re: freezing and mixing MIDI tracks advice
Come on, admit it. If you just freeze sections of instruments (as opposed to individual freezes) you will ALWAYS want to change something afterwards anyway... maybe the flutes are too loud and the clarinets too soft. When this happens, you will have to go back to the MIDI tracks and refreeze everyt...

Re: freezing and mixing MIDI tracks advice
If you are coming into DP from the MIDI devices via discrete inputs for each device/instrument sound, you could simply multi-record. As long as your audio device(s) doesn't have any "leaks" you should get the discrete tracks all at once. If you're coming out of a simple stereo input and w...

freezing and mixing MIDI tracks advice
I'm fishing for some best tips and practices advice for mixing when working with a fairly large number of MIDI tracks. I am finishing up editing the MIDI today and am starting to think about what might be the most logical and efficient way to proceed. There are 20+ tracks of strings, winds, brass an...

Re: What is the Best Version of DP5 for OS X 10.6.2
I do plan on going to DP7 at some point, once I recover from the financial burden of just having invested in a new machine.
Thanks for the link; that actually answered a question about Sibelius for me as well.
regards,
Keith

Re: What is the Best Version of DP5 for OS X 10.6.2
I was afraid of that. I guess i'll be doing some research here to find out more about 7. Any idea of 6 will work, as I might be able to get a copy of that until I can invest in upgrading to 7. Thanks for the feedback. Would still love to hear from anyone else with some other options out there, altho...

What is the Best Version of DP5 for OS X 10.6.2
Hello, I finally upgraded my computer to an intel, many years after I really needed too, however, I'm still running DP5 and really can't justify upgrading to 7 at the moment. I did the install today and upgraded to the last updated version of DP, 5.13, but none of the plugins that come with performe...

Re: .mid files
Dwetmaster, So everything you've said has been the perfect solution. (I'll have to do some reading about the snapshot function though) I'm going to be duplicating sequences, then working with different chunks. This seems to be the easiest route. And the scale plug-in idea is exactly what I needed. I...

Re: .mid files
Thanks DwetMaster, I figured out the patch change thing and that works fine. And I will try the chunks thing. I've not really used the song or chunk windows much, but I guess now's my chance to put it to use. CMD-Drag, that sounds easy enough. I"ll check the manual, too. Here's another question...

Re: .mid files
Ok, so with a little bit of help from google, I figured out how to set up GM in DP5. Pretty simple actually, using the DLSMusicDevice and then finding the a list of GM Sound sets to help in sorting out which patch changes to make for the appropriate sounds I need. The issue I still need help with is...

.mid files
Hi, I'm working on some music for a video game and the developer is asking for the files to be in .mid format. So, as far as I know, this is a MIDI file, right? And i know in DP I can save a file as a MIDI file, open and play it in quicktime, but the sounds that come out are only of MIDI piano, not ...
