Stuck notes - a different tack
I suffered badly from stuck note syndrome some time ago and ultimately discovered that the problem wasn't with my MIDI gear or software at all but rather the culpret was a cheap USB hub. Whenever there was qwerty keyboard or mouse action (both USB through that hub), the hub would get overloaded and ...

Re: Original 828 + MTP A/V + Focusrite Trakmaster Pro
Actually, I just bought v6... haven't installed it yet. I wanted to finish the job I started before changing ANYTHING. Now that job's done, I have time to futz with the system. I also ordered a FireWire PCI card... figuring it will give me my ports in a more native way, w/o being a firewire-to-firew...

Re: Calibrating audio levels for a noob
Generally, you want the most signal you can get (but not clipped/distorted) at every stage of your system. So, where to begin? Start at the signal sources. Anything with a VU/Level meter should be showing you near 0db. If they're low, turn 'em up. If they're high, turn 'em down. Do this starting wit...

Original 828 + MTP A/V + Focusrite Trakmaster Pro
Please understand before we go any further who I am and what I know... I'm a long-time MIDI musician who is self-taught in all things recording. I'm a professional software engineer by day, so I know a thing or two about a thing or two, but I'm not a MacOS expert by any measure. Indeed, as a computi...

From what I gather, there is no one true cause of such problems... as many people have found fixes many different ways, be they phantom entries in audio/MIDI setup, corrupted configurations, second rate hubs, or software bugs in OS-X or DP. I get the feeling that the OS-X and DP bugs are now gone --...

Looks like I'm cured!
So I talked to a friend about my troubles and he suggested something so totally obvious I didn't think to try: my USB hub. I removed the hub (a perfectly ordinary powered USB 2.0 hub, GE-branded) from my system and I haven't had a stuck note or a MIDI glitch for hours and hours of use over the cours...

So after my last post, I sat back down to play, frustrated by the whole thing anyway, and blamo, the stuck notes stopped, the on-patch-change soundings stopped, and the bank 0 patches were accessible via program-change. So it comes and goes - and these three things seem to be related. That's informa...

Bloody hell, my stuck notes (and random soundings on patch changes) ARE BACK! I noticed something else very interesting.. the patch change does not work for bank 0 of my Kurzweil 2600R... well, rarely it does, but mostly it does not. All the other banks are fine. I even found the midinam XML file wi...

Fodo - thanks much for the hardcore details. Half the battle is knowing where to find stuff! I'll give this a try tonight. I'm thinking I'll want to zorch my 828 drivers, too, as the attendant applications seem to be confused. Seriously - thank you (and others!) so much for your continued assistance...

>It seems worth it to trace the problem-- --indeed. >Turn Local to OFF and route all of your MIDI through DP. My kb has been in local off mode for 10 years :) MIDI thru is not connected from my input kb. I do have one of my MTP/AV output buses chained in/thru/in/thru/in/trhu for some single-channel ...

I'm using a MOTU MTP/AV interface and my trusty Yamaha P200 as my performance controller - the exact same hardware that was working absolutely fabulously on my G4 with DP 2 and 3 under OS 9.2. I've not had satisfactory results with OSX yet, wiith DP4.5 through 5.11 on my dual G5. This is what gets m...

5.11 update
So... today I installed DP 5.11 and the latest USB MIDI drivers from MOTU.
Verdict: still get stuck notes!
*expletive*
At this point, I'm really starting to seriously consider switching to another package . . . despite my decade-plus investment in DP.
