Thanks a lot Brad :) My Gefell mic is the M990. The Soundelux is a tube one? Please could you tell me how close is Liquid Ch. to the real stuffs? I've been told that some are near 100%, others less Which are better reproduced? Would you suggest the Liquid as the only mic PRE? Tnx a lot again alix

Re: MIc Pre recommendations

Brad, have you ever tried Liquid Channel, UA stuffs and ISA 430 with a GEFELL M990 tube cond. mic ? it's the mic I've got, and use it specially on a female voice. I've been also told about Millennia TD-1, Great River ME-1NV, Avalon M5, Speck 5.0, Grace 101 and others What do you think about these ki...

Re: Recording electric guitar in a low-volume situation

Have a try on a MESA Recto Recording Pre. It's done to satisfy that kind of request... if you like the kind of sounds Mesa amps can produce, of course :) I find very useful the advice you're already been given, to reamp the tracked gtr elsewhere, If you want it to sound really big. Or you could try ...

Re: mic and pre

Tnx, but Summit seems to not give a good result with my Gefell Mic. I'm actually more oriented on different stuffs, such as MILLENNIA TD-1, GREAT RIVER ME-1NV , and Focusrite ISA mkII, and others such as GROOVE tubes VIPER that I hope I'll have a chance to test in the next days, 'cause I'm in a hurr...

Re: MOTU firewire best chain on iBook

Hi Jemstone,

are you sure about the firewire HUB?
I've always been told to carefully avoid :/
Have you experimented directly with it?

Tnx a lot :)

Re: mic and pre

Thanks Shanky :)
I'm gonna have a look to Summit stuffs too

I see that you own a 828mkII
Do you know what the best way to chain it with a FW hard disk?
Which one before to get the best results with a Mac carryin' just 1 FW socket?

MOTU firewire best chain on iBook

Hello,

usually I use a G5, but I'm planning to buy an iBook to keep on doing small things when I'm moving.
There's only 1 firewire socket:
what's the best to chain an 828mkII and a firewire HD?
I mean: which one better to connect before, directly to the iBook FW?

Tnx

Re: mic and pre

No I mean the 312 (though the 512 is cool too). Check out Mercenary Audio they have the API 3124+ (4 channels of 312 pres in a 1 space rack). I've had a look to the API 3124: unfortunately it's out of budget. Tnx anyway :) I'll try to find here a 512 to test with the GEFELL mic. I've found a MILLEN...

Re: mic and pre

You need a hardware compressor for tracking.
Hi Henry :)

I tried with a UAD compressor and it works: just needed settings the MOTU buffer size at 64 to minimize latency.
The UA manual says that UAD latency is doubling the buffer value.
