Sorry...James I'd also mention it's a good idea to edge edit all of your discontinous tracks (vocals,etc) It makes for an overall cleaner mix and reduces your CPU drain.

I agree with side chaining and I'd add trying MW multi band compressor so you be more precise about your boost. Also on my subwoofer the low end sounds a bit heavy, make sure your not over boosting the subsonic end of the bass track, it might be eating up some of your dynamic range in the mix.

Welcome to upgrade hell. As the software gets more powerful your platforms going to get slower and you'll have to get a 424 for the new G5's PCI buss. Not to mention OS 9 support is fading by the hour. So sooner or later you just gotta bite the bullet.
