I had this problem too. I just simply went to the MOTU Firewire console and changed values for everything (sample rate, etc), then save. Then open it up again, and changed all values back to my preferences. I also did a power-off, power-on of the 828 that might have helped (I dont know). The squeeli...

From what I remember asking them, I think you are allowed. I have mine installed on a PowerMac and a PC. But since my stupid Windows PC crashed and burned, I blew it away and reformatted the drive. On the Spectrasonics site, this is what it says. http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/stylus_faq.h...

Some other things to consider: Are all your gear plugged into the same AC line/strip? Do you have a different guitar or bass you can try? See if that will also hum or not. Is there a hum when the bass guitar is not plugged in? We just need to find out where the hum is coming in. If the hum is caused...

I don't have any SSL plugins, but I have SSL 4000 clones :) 4 channels of SSL stereo mix bus compression! Yes, they can make any skinny sound phat, and warm. I modified it by also adding transformers at the output stage. The compressor is cloned/based from an old SSL4044E desk, dating back from '85....

I tested chaining a firewire drive to my firewire interface. Played audio, while copying gigabytes of files to the external drive as a test. The audio did not break up or stutter, and the data was copied without problems. But 1) I'm not recording, 2) I'm not using 24 channels, 3) I'm not using multi...

Right now, it's just vaporware. And Apple really wants to improve the slow performance of the PowerBook and get away from incremental 1.33, 1.5, 1.67 Ghz offerings. And only Intel has a viable product and manufacturing capability that will improve Apple's laptop performance. But who knows... maybe t...

- Topic: What's the diff. between active and passive direct boxes?

Passive direct boxes provide impedance matching. So the input impedance is different from the output impedance. It is not a 1:1 ratio transformer. Hum Eliminators usually work at line level signals and do not change the impedances. It's basically a 1:1 ratio transformer. While they'll fix hums and g...

Computer scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a computer program which they claim can accurately forecast where a song will appear in the charts. Pretty bold claim! I doubt it. It's the Record Label in coordination with ClearChannel which will determine what the ne...

I agree... fix the room as best as you can. You can't really fix a bad room by EQing the monitors... even if you use RTA /EQ and tweak the EQ as best as you can. Well... it will probably sound right where the test mic was positioned, but not in other areas of the room. You can have nulls in some are...

>we run the bass either thru the Grace 101 then into a RNC or to an Amp Sim then into Mackie 800 then into the 2408Mk3 or just Amp Sim into the 2408. No, no no... No wonder you get an awful hum! :) Bass guitars and electric guitars have high impedances. Mic preamps like the Grace 101 expect to see a...

You can use a program like SuperDuper! to clone the contents of your IDE drive to a new SATA drive. It will copy the old files to the new drive with the right permissions and all.... heck, you can even make the new drive bootable (if your old IDE was bootable). I use SuperDuper to make a bootable ba...

I want some better ITB reverb Altiverb??? :) Personally, I use a hardware reverb box Lexicon MPX550 wired to the MOTU 828mk2 via the Coaxial SPDIF input/output jacks (so it's all digital from/to the audio interface) Then I just setup a ...
