Crash on SAVE: DP 7.2 and VE PRO

Post by sinkd »

Also running Play standalone (loopback via ADAT, 2408 Mk3) at the time-- anyone else?

Zoiks!

Otherwise pretty groovy with 7.2.

[Downloads Play update...]

Looks very much like a VE PRO problem from the crash report. I'd love to hear from other VE PRO users. Thanks

Thank god, I thought it was just me. I'm currently in hell!

I'm having about 40 crashes a day at the moment, since upgrading to DP 7.2 (from 7.12). I know it's nothing to do with DP, but I'm trying to work out what the heck i can do about it. I've now gone back to 7.12, and it's still crashing (it never used to), so think I'm going to have a major clearout of preferences, etc, at some stage.

I'm running about 14 instances of VE Pro connected to a slave mac. DP itself has some stylus and some VI's - nothing too taxing. Checked activity monitor, DP's using about 1.5 gigs, so lots to play with.

What tends to happen is:

It'll save fine to begin with. Then gradually the save times get longer. On about the 5th save I'll get the spinning beachball for about 5 secs, then DP crashes. What's even weirder is that when I restart DP and open the file, it opens up a version that was saved about 3 saves previously. (i.e. it forgets the last 3 or so saves). The only way to be certain it'll remember is to save, then close file, then reopen it. As I'm in the middle of a soundtrack at the mo, not ideal!

I hadn't actually thought that it might be VE Pro issue. I'm starting to lose the will to live, as am LOVING the new graphics in 7.2 - really makes it easier to compose, bizarrely enough! 8)

does anyone have any ideas what to do to solve it? My system's been rock solid up until now, and reverting to 7.12 doesn't seem to solve it. I was wondering if it's maybe because both 7.12 and 7.2 are on the machine?

Make sure you're using latest VEPro update.
Also try decoupling each VEP instance.
This feature was added to reduce save times for those who experience long save times.

But you must be saving .viframe files for every VEP instance or a metaframe file in order to recall your VEP setup the next time you load the DP project.

Hope that helps.

Done to all of the above. I'm running VE Pro on a slave, so the only thing I can think of is that it's to do with the audiounit plug-on. (It it is, indeed, a VE PRO problem).

Does VE Pro have any preference files that you can try to delete? If so try that (and then try removing DP's preferences).

Crashed Thread 0 is the main thread and that sometimes points to a corrupt preference file.

Oddly enough, I was having occasional crash on saves with 7.12, but that went away with 7.2 for me!

I know, right? :?

I have the same setup, VEP is on a Mac slave. I don't have 14 instances though, that's a lot.

It's possible that you need to decrease the number of cores (or do they call it threads) in VEP the instances use.

OK, so I've trashed all VE pro prefs (on the main computer) and all DP prefs. Re-installed VE Pro.

Still crashing.

Any ideas? :shake:

Doodles,

I'm sure you've sent all of this to VSL, but my contact there is Maya Vinson. They say they are looking into it.

I have trashed prefs and started anew--had good luck this morning. De-coupling all instances on my main computer sure speeds up save times and no crashes today. I'm sure the VSL team would like to see a crashlog from you.
