Less CPU Overloads in DP5?

Post by dubwon »

I am using dp 4.61 now. I am thinking about moving to 5 but I'm wondering--does 5 use CPU power more efficiently? or less efficiently? In 4.61 I am getting CPU overloads alot, I am wondering, using the same exact plugins, # of tracks, settings etc, will I get less overloads? has anyone noticed a difference?

5.11 is the greatest version of DP since sliced bread. Not 5.0, not 5.01, not 5.1

We're talking about 5.11. It rocks. My CPU meter is so bored now!

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like there is a dramatic improvement. I am on a dual 1.8, 4gb ram.

Yes -- DP 5.11 on my dual g4 runs more efficiently than 4.6

I noticed a huge CPU reduction going up to DP 5. Now with 5.11 it is even better. I love DP 5! It's such a fantastic app. I noticed a huge CPU reduction when I went to the 424 card also. It seems to take a lot of stress off the host computer.

While I'm in MOTU complimentary mode, I think it's so refreshing and great that they have already provided drivers for all their hardware for Microsoft's Vista OS while it's still in Beta testing. All other Audio Technology companies should take a leaf out of their company manual. Top show!

Re: the cpu reduction, any of you using a UAD 1 and a tc Powercore pci? I have both w dual 2.7 G5 and the cpu spikes are not debilitating, but they concern me. I have the uad in slot 2 and the powercore pci in slot 4. I would upgrade to DP5 just to end the spikes. Kelly

Could that mac upgrade you've been so patient for be put off even further now, I wonder.
If DP keeps gettin' more efficient, you'll be able to avoid it forever!

Go you good thing, Shoosh.

I have definitely noticed 5.11 to be more solid, and no crashes when changing buffers! Hurrah!...

I will have to watch the cpu meter to see if this is better...but, if nothing has been yelling at me in the system thusfar, then it is probably ok.
Though, at 128 buffers for tracking multiple instances of Guitar Rig, I fully expect the system to crap out...this is a scenario in which all of our technology is still a mess, with computers and DP's inefficiency lagging behind the needs of users..
