Stuck BTD

Post by taka »

Hello--

I've seen this mentioned by several people but couldn't find a definitive answer...

I've been suffering from "stuck" Bounce To Disk problem in DP10.
When I try to bounce, it beachballs for a while, then bounce meter starts, but gets stuck in the middle, sometimes more than once during the process.

I've done some testing and it happens even with a single mono track with no plug-in, so it doesn't look like it's plug-in related.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

Thank You--!

Loading up the diagnostic shotgun...

You have a fast enough Mac and more than enough RAM. If you don't reboot daily, try that first. It could be as simple as not having enough free RAM.

You have a few choices.

Bouncing to mp3 involves a conversion. If that's what you're doing, try a reinstall of 10.01 then reboot. This has fixed others.

You can try to find out what's getting in the way. Make the Background Processing window visible. If you don't see the problem, open Console.app and look there. Either DP is looking for something that should load or some old code is getting in the way.

The second is to dump everything into a new project and see if that does it.

Although the Mac OS is very good at dealing with corrupt pathways (despite what the crapware utilities guys say), apps and files do load more quickly if there are none. A Safe Boot followed by a reboot repairs paths and resets the caches to default. If you see generic alias icons, no need to wonder, you have corrupt pathways. I see this after major and OS version upgrades often. Shut down, boot with the Shift key held, log into your Users Account, wait for your desktop icons to rebuild. Shut down and reboot. This can take 10 minutes or more—even on a Mini or iMac Pro so be patient.

Hello--

Thanks for the suggestions :-)
I followed the steps last night but I still had the stuck BTD happening.
But, this morning, I tested bouncing a few tracks and it seems to be OK, no stuck BTD so far.

I will see how it goes in the next proper session, hopefully it is now OK --
Thanks :-)

...It "seems" that flushing undo history helps with this.
I haven't had a 'stuck' since I started flushing undo history just before bouncing..
Though I only did a handful of bounces so far so I will see.. :-)

..It seems my "Stuck BTD" symptom is definitely related to Undo History..
If I flush all undo history entries before bouncing, I never get the "stuck" symptom, if I don't flush, bounce gets stuck at a fairly high probability.

Has anyone else noticed this??
