Repeated re-activation of DP8- Resolved
I've recently begun using DP8 on a Macbook Pro, but every time I open it, I have to reactivate it. I have one other instance of DP8 on an iMac that had been the primary computer on which I used it. Aren't two instances of DP8 allowed? If so, why do I need to keep reactivating DP8 on the Macbook Pro (but not the iMac?)

I'll put money on your MBP being APFS file format, and your iMac not. APFS file structure is the reason. I bet more clearly, so long as you don't power down the MBP, you can open and close DP8 all you want, and it's when you power down the MBP that you have to re-authorize.
I'm doing this same dance here.

Re: Repeated re-activation of DP8
Exactly right. If I power down, I have to re-activate. OS on old iMac is maxed out at 10.11.6, and I suspect you're right that file format is at the heart of the matter. I think that DP8 may just be barely supported under 10.13. A friend of mine who uses DP7 accidentally upgraded to 10.14 (great musician, but not a real tech savvy guy,) making it impossible to open DP7.
I created a technote at MOTU. Will see if they have a solution. If not, I guess I'll just memorize the activation code.

Re: Repeated re-activation of DP8
I received a response to my technote at MOTU. It's a bug when using DP8 with OS 10.13 or higher. The solution is upgrading to DP9 or above.
