MIDI gaps required for Kontakt5 in DP9 or chords don't track

Post by Timeline »

Endnotes when quantized look proper in DP but Kontakt 5 gets confused by some incoming chords too close. I'm using the new Electric patch which went on sale for 49 bucks recently. I have had to go through the entire MIDI arrangement and reduce end note length, about a 16th, leaving a gap before it would play next chord reliably. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with Kontakt5 or 6? I bought Complete 10 and have added Vi's. Its rather time consuming dealing with this. Is it Kontakt or DP or, my computer although other VIs don't have this issue?

Check out these threads. It's a known bug. DP refuses to accept responsibility, saying rather that it is an issue with the VI's (even though it also affects DP instruments). It won't get fixed, so we have workarounds. I use an MIDI insert to change duration by -1 tick.

These threads give more info, and they're pretty concise.

The threads aren't gone, but I may not have linked them correctly.

The first thread is called "MIDI problem using the wiper"

The second is called "Problem with MIDI notes with Kontakt plugin inside DP"

and the third is called "Software instruments won't play repeated MIDI notes"

Perhaps using those phrases in the search will bring them up.

It is a pain, but there are a couple good workarounds in there.

Actually, I have found workarounds already but they're time-consuming. One is a manual freeze of the track while listening to it print. When it goes off pitch, stop, and immediately start up from that point. The last time I did it I had to do pickups about 8 times to get all the way through to the end. It seems I will have to do this on all the MIDI virtual tracks. I did wait until I had discovered the right tempo for the tune before I recorded/froze them.

I thought by gap-ing the ends of some of the chords it would fix it, it didn't although it helped. Anyway, this is a serious enough issue to send a MOTU complaint about and I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks, GB

You could try using the MIDI insert of Change Duration... to shorten the notes by 1 tick (or more) then option dragging that to all your other MIDI tracks. (I actually have that plugin already in my default project).

We can't wait around for MOTU to fix what they refuse to acknowledge is a bug. So, yea, I'm glad to year you'll bug them about it.
