Greetings,
I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 in.)
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
I'd like to purchase the Motu 4Pre to use for mobile recording.
I'm using a 896 Hybrid in my main studio and like the similar set up of the 4Pre.
My MacBook has TB and also has USB3 ports. No FW ports.
Motu tells me I can not use my TB/FW adapter to use the bus power. And I understand the
TB passes only 7V, while FW passes 22V. So the adapter can not offer Bus power. I would
have to use a power supply.
Bus power aside, will using the TB/FW adapter allow a proper operating connection with
the 4Pre and my MacBook?
Will a Fw800 to Fw400 cable work with the TB/FW adapter to connect the 2 units and have a working system.
Also the 4Pre owners manual reads that the unit comes with a type A FW cable, but I think the
port on the back of the unit looks like a type B FW connection.
So exactly what cable do I need to successfully use the FW connection of the 4Pre with my TB port
on my MacBook Pro?
Or should I just use USB with the 4Pre and keep it simple.
Sure wish Motu had a 4Pre with TB connectivity.
Thanks very much for any kind advise,
Rick
