Re: Need input for 10 features of Digital Performer video
I'm right behind all these qualities. I use some more than others.
As someone who works a ton with MIDI, I think of DP's "MIDI Editing Capabilities" (Per MLC's #3) as one of my most appreciated features.
The basic quantize window, and the basic transpose window reveal ridiculous amounts of MUSICAL flexibility and control.

Good list, but don't forget MOTUnation. I've learned a lot from being in this group and I'm not sure every DAW has a professional user community that's this active.

FWIW, I wrote a small series on cool stuff in DP on my blog: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2016/ ... art-1.html all 5 parts are linked there.
Also a post concerning negative things about DP: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2016/ ... er....html

Re: Need input for 10 features of Digital Performer video
I'm reading your thread now. It's a great read.
I didn't know MW EQ had an "Audition with noise" feature! That sounds quite helpful.
We've already argued the various merits and pitfalls of absolute vs relative grid, so I won't crack open that worm-can here.
Anyway, thanks for sharing those links. I'm looking forward to reading all of the parts.

Robert, that is a truly great (and very informative) set of posts!Robert Randolph wrote:FWIW, I wrote a small series on cool stuff in DP on my blog: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2016/ ... art-1.html all 5 parts are linked there.

It really exposed me to the MANY tools and approaches I have ignored entirely, but which are going to get more time from me in the near future. Polar (never used), Song chunks, the "noise audition" feature in the EQ, and the Dynamic EQ, and clippings just to start. Thanks so much for mentioning this series (and for writing it)!

Re: Need input for 10 features of Digital Performer video
Hi Robert - I read your blogs. We are almost lock step in our options concerning DP. Your conclusion that DP is no longer ahead and is in the position of falling dangerously behind is correct in my opinion. I expected DP9 to take care of most of these issues. But was very surprised that it turned out to be such a lite update, and ended up creating more problems. It should have been called DP8.5xx.Robert Randolph wrote:FWIW, I wrote a small series on cool stuff in DP on my blog: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2016/ ... art-1.html all 5 parts are linked there.

The fact that some of DP's important features and interface elements are still based on late '80s GUI design concerns me.
I have some additional gripes about DP that I may include in an upcoming YouTube DP video that will go along with the top 10 feature video.
Good work. With your permission I'd like to mention or link your blog in one of my upcoming videos. PM me if you like.

Re: Need input for 10 features of Digital Performer video
Would you like to be part of the video? I'm inviting some of the local DP YT power users to take one of the features and make a 60-90 second video which will be edited into the final video. Everyone involved will have permission to use the video.Robert Randolph wrote:Feel free to refer to the posts or information there-in!Steve Steele wrote:Hi Robert - I read your blogs. Actually I'm working on it now. For several reasons I wanted to wait (mainly because I was getting a lot of work from the Vienna Ensemble Pro and Kontakt videos, so I made more of those and halted the DP vids).toodamnhip wrote:Wow, I must have been busy when this thread came out. But now the time is right to do something good for DP. I'm waiting on a couple more responses to see who'll be collaborating. You're welcome to if you have the means to make a 60-90 second screen recording and clear voiceover for one of the 10 features that we decide on.

Yes. DP has so many cool, unique and useful features that just don't get enough publicity.Steve Steele wrote: Would you like to be part of the video? I recommend including David Polich, a long-time DP user, MOTUNATION member, and music-industry luminary, for your video.Steve Steele wrote: Shooshie, MLC, James, Mike, bayswater, RR, toodamnhip, HCMarkus... and all..I
