Digital Perfomer and Tiger OS ( 10.4 )

Post by midiw »

I have revived my iMac Intel 2006 ( early version ) .

It has a external firewire/usb hard drive running Tiger ( 10.4 ) .

Which version of Digital Performer will work in OS Tiger 10.4 ?

I don't like DP after 7.01 in OS 10.4.11. I have a Dual Core 1.2MHz G4 running DP 5.13, 7.01 and 7.12.

I found 7.12 slow and 7.24 very slow. They work, however.

Mind you, this is on a PPC. On an Intel iMac, you may have better results and be able to push DP 7.24. Fortunately, it is possible to install all three versions of 7 and test them as I did.

Thank you for your response/interest in my question/problem.

OK, now to find my installer CD/DVD's. I will install DP 5, 6 and 7. The nice thing about DP is that you can install all 3 versions on the same hard drive and somehow each version sorts out what MOTU plug-ins work with the version launched.

According to Mactracker, the early 2006 iMac will run OS 10.6.8 which ought to handle DP 7.2.4 OK, although it indicates a maximum of 2G RAM which will be a limiting factor. The MOTU site gives details on which releases of DP 7 require which versions of OS X.

Yes, although the earlier versions will run in 10.4.11, 10.6.8 is much, better for DP.

Unless you have a real need to run the older versions, DP 7.24 should be all you really need.
