i'm trying to get MSI to work on my macbook. i loaded MSI on my mac pro a couple years back and ran into the same problem but eventually corrected it.

i can open MSI but no samples appear when selecting a track.

where does the MSI.dat file have to be moved for the samples to load?

You can leave your MSI.dat file wherever you like (an external disk for better performance), and just create an Alias of it and put the Alias inside the /Library/Application Support/MOTU/MSI as carrythebanner suggested.
