SOS introduces Plugsound Pro: The Missing Instrument
The latest issue of SOS reflects on DP's lack of a sample player. MSI and Ethno are mentioned for their specific offerings. They suggest PS Pro should be bundled with DP.
However, no mention of M5v2.
I gotta say I'm really happy with PS Pro a general use plug-in.
Other than that I'm speechless regarding M5v2.

Yep - just got the Plugsound Pro yesterday.
Was toying with the idea of getting it, and the SOS bit tipped me over.
First impressions? Excellent. This will keep me going for some time yet.
The sounds are generally very good - some excellent pianos, kits, guitars. The orchestral sounds appear to be taken from the MSI - infact, you get all the important sounds from that module.
As an advert for M5VII, it's also looking good. The FX have been upgraded, and there's a sneaky IR 'verb on the AUX sends, which sounds great!
I am having a couple of teething troubles with the plugin, but no more than I've ever had with any MOTU product!

Another month, another monkey.
It's larger than I feel comfortable with, but I was relieved to learn Frodo's just pips it.
Thanks for the impressions, alexff; keep 'em coming if you can...

Am happy to answer anything. Any particular questions? Bets on that most of the tech in PSP applies to M5 VII.monkey man wrote: Thanks for the impressions, alexff; keep 'em coming if you can...

Why not just post what excites you? Anything at all.
Machy clues and speculations take priority, of course.
Again, thanks for sharing, alexff.

True, but this months incarnation of the Monkey of the Month made me spit my soda all over my control board due to fits of spontaneous hysterical laughter.

Re: SOS introduces Plugsound Pro: The Missing Instrument
Well, well. If we're into rampant speculation, then here's mine! The following is all based on the features in Plugsound Pro.monkey man wrote:Why not just post what excites you? Anything at all. Machy clues and speculations take priority, of course.
1. FX
All those in M5 V1, plus a whole load of new stuff including a cool tape delay sim, guitar amp models, analogue style flangers and chorus - and the same convolution 'verb as seen on MSI and Ethno. Oh, and a turntable sim.
2. Auto timestretch, tempo sync and slicing.
Plugsound pro features all sorts of cool 'ableton live style' beat matching and tempo sync. When you audition loops, PSP matches the loop speed to the current song tempo. This is all very cool, and whilst it's mentioned in press release for M5V2, I don't see much evidence of this in the released screenshot. Ethno has these features too. Maybe some of the delay is in tweaking this aspect of the plugin.
http://www.motu.com/newsitems/images/ma ... fullscreen
Maybe the design has changed to take account of these features.
3. Bundled sounds.
The PSP soundset is made up of Plugsound sounds, MSI, Ethno etc. Also, many of the sounds (if not all) of the M5 v1 library are included.
I reckon that M5 v2 will share some of the 8g library with PSP, plus maybe samples of the new upcoming USB titles
http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/uvisoundcards.html
Also, the USB site mentions that M5V2 will be able to read the above titles.
So far, I'm very impressed with the PSP. It bodes well for the arival of M5V2. But thing remains - I probably won't have the need for M5 V2 after all. Hmmn...

Hey Sweetlips
Nice shade of lipstick
I posted my impressions previously.
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 487#120487
I'm still really pleased with this VI.
When I first started using PSP, a disturbing thought emerged: Why do I really need M5? This thing (PSP) has all the sound I need... for most typical projects. (When I was using my first playback sampler, I probably used 28 out of 128 factory sounds on with any degree of frequency).
But M5 allows one to create original sample sets. And the import cabability, etc. M5 is still a gem I pleased to be using.

Re: SOS introduces Plugsound Pro: The Missing Instrument
Exactly. The only difference between PSP and the proposed M5 v2 is the ability to create and imprt your own samples. And that points to UVI-Extract.alexff wrote:Well, well. So I speculate the problem has to do with upgrading or relicensing UVI-Extract.

Just a quick wander off topic...
Chrispick,flashgerkin etc..
Have you had the 'missing samples' bug with the PSP? It affects a few of the urban drum kit patches - when loading the program, the plugin reports missing samples.
A couple of people on another forum have posted this issue too, but I'm guessing you guys would have a similar setup to mine...?

Yes, I have. I keep meaning to document this and notify USB, but keep forgetting. Luckily, this hasn't been a crucial issue for me, and it's likely the kind of thing easily alleviated with a bug patch.alexff wrote:Just a quick wander off topic...

So yeah, PSP ain't perfect. It's still young. Still, it's a very useable app.

Er, thanks, Mr. Gordon.
Curious, 'Cornies: What purpose do those "Borg" pipes and hoses serve in Machy's main window?
I've always noticed them in review pics and the like...
Are they hype, signal-flow clues, or reminders that the programmers are all Trekkies?
