Re: Dust, dust, dust... It's driving me crazy!
What everyone else has said, plus two other things: cats and masking tape. Not that you use them together. Quite the contrary. You see, cats are natural dust mops. A cat will get in every crevice of your studio, behind computers, in between cables, and so forth. It's just the cat's way of having fun...

Re: Sweetwater Virtual Piano - RESULTS - SPOILER ALERT
When I was doing the five piano concert for our amazing soloist, Ariel the Pianist (the latter part of his monicker added after Disney's "the Little Mermaid" made it harder to find him on the net), one of my specialty "tricks" was in swapping pianos out and yet making them come o...

Re: Guitar Tube Amp Hiss
PS: I have dealt with most of that kind of noise by using gates, lo-pass or hi-pass filters, and especially by quickly ramping up/down and muting tracks at the boundaries of live audio. The latter has become one of my staples in engineering. When a track isn't making music, it needs to be OFF.

Re: Guitar Tube Amp Hiss
I don't play guitar, certainly not an electric one, so most of my experience with amps, miccing, and processing guitar sounds has been because of my role as engineer on a lot of projects. So, bear with me... When you say "hiss," are you talking about high frequency hiss, as in cassette tap...

Re: RIP, John Perry Barlow
Not a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson, either. I do like that he provided Garry Trudeau with the necessary fodder to create one of the most ideal beloved villains in comic strip history as "Duke" in Doonesbury . He's the perfect straw man to take on the weight of all mankind's sins, one by o...

Re: RIP, John Perry Barlow
I was never a fan of his. He had a crush on my wife. :) That she was married didn’t make him put the brakes on. Luckily my wife is good and nothing transpired. Lol. RIP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk In other words, in addition to being an interesting and influential man, he was also a "g...

Re: Feature idea - highlighting
You mean, like a permanent highlighter? The way we mark in books? I'd LOVE that feature. Especially if it would instantly covert to a selection, with the touch of a button. Man... imagine! Dozens of selections already highlighted, just awaiting your call to hop into action! Maybe a Control-Option-Cl...

Re: THANK YOU, "MAGIC DAVE" ROBERTS!!!!!
I don't remember the first time I talked to Dave. I do remember the first time I became aware of his full name. It's the same as my brother's name: Dave Roberts. My brother was a world record holding Olympic athlete in the pole vault back in the 1970s, and I told him that. Dave was not impressed. I...

Re: THANK YOU, "MAGIC DAVE" ROBERTS!!!!!
Dave has opened corrupted files for me when I was at wit's end. I thought I knew all the tricks, but Dave apparently has a few in reserve for those special occasions. On the one occasion that I got back a note from Dave saying that he could not open it, the quote from Star Trek ran through my head: ...

Re: Magic Dave no longer at MOTU
The time comes for everyone when the urge to move on is the one you follow. Dave may still work at MOTU, but either way, he has found another niche that fascinates him and pays the bills, and I am happy for him it that's what he wants. Thanks for all the great years of riding this incredible studio ...

Re: Physics (sound) brain teaser
Nice to hear from you old friend, even if it involves a cacophonous observation. We've missed you 'round these parts. Busy isn't a bad thing when it involves positive developments; here's hoping you have a bunch of fun along the way! I miss you all, too. There are times when life just won't let you...

Re: Physics (sound) brain teaser
If the pitch is higher from an approaching source because of the movement of the source, then when it echoes, I would have guessed it would bounce away from a surface at the same speed it hits the surface, and stay at a higher pitch because of the faster movement. From what you said, and now I thin...

Physics (sound) brain teaser
Hi, long time no see and all that. I'm very out of pocket these days, and it appears I will be for a while longer. Facing a move — a good one, voluntary — that may take months to accomplish, so I'm awfully busy. But here's a brain teaser. I was watching a YouTube video in which a train approached a ...

RIP, John Perry Barlow
Internet visionary, Grateful Dead lyricist, rancher, co-founder of the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), early columnist and associate of Wired Magazine, and many other monickers, mythological or not, John Perry Barlow was a renaissance man for our age. He pioneered digital rights, anticipating ...
