According to him, lower sample rates are better for signal processing, especially complex calculations, because there is more computation time between samples to perform the signal processing.
And you're right about the Aphex Aural Exciter as an analogy for what Dr. Watkinson was saying.

Re: DP Control App?
Or, pick up an old iPhone 4 or 4S and somehow get DP Control on it. It's a matter of being on an old iOS.

Re: Mac mini 2012 i7 - Performance switching to 96 kHz
At an AES meeting in Amsterdam years ago, John Watkinson, author of "The Art of Digital Audio", got into quite a back-and-forth with an audience member who challenged him about high sample rates, which he said aren't necessary with modern oversampling A/D and D/A converters. He said someth...

When you say "Mac OS", you mean it vanishes from the Audio MIDI Setup utility?jay_bee007 wrote:Hi
Its no longer detected by Discovery tool or by Mac OS. The only way to get it back is to reboot the interface.

Re: Fastlane shows up in MIDI apps, just not AMS!
Have you tried creating a new AMS configuration, and clicking Add Device? Sometimes this "wakes up" AMS to the presence of an interface.

What is the ADAT optical feeding? Is that device set to follow ADAT clock? This is quite a chain, with S/PDIF as the master clock. Does the DA-20 have a Word Clock output? That might be more stable, if you can find a BNC cable.

Re: Help importing Performer files into DP 8
I forgot whether old Performer could export SMF (standard MIDI files), but I'm guessing it did. Try exporting that, and drag the MIDI files into your DP8 project.

Re: Audio disaster during live recording?
OK, the problem finally recurred in a situation where I could find out what's going on. I think the issue has to do with FireWire clocking, and may be related to what MIDI Life Crisis said as well. I was in my own studio this time, running two MOTU interfaces over FireWire into a Mac: an 896mk3, and...

Re: No audio from DAW in 828mk2
Check the I/O window of your DAW (Bundles in DP, Settings/IO in Pro Tools). Sometimes the internal patches are renamed or not assigned. In your mixer window are the outputs grayed out?

Re: Firewire & Mac OSX
I have FW issues with a new 10’ FW800 cable that disappear when I use shorter cables. I wonder what happened to the ferrite coils/chokes some cables had? I also have better luck in a mixed 800/400 setup when I make my Traveler (with a FW400 connection) the closest to the Mac; I suspect that one of t...

Re: Project unreadable with DP9.52 but fine with 9.02
So anyone have input on the "strip and rewrite the header" item for helping load a possibly corrupt file? :D Thanks! I think what Mike Halloran is suggesting is to open the individual audio file in a different program like QuickTime and do a Save As in a different format, or even in the s...

ok so my next question : what is the best way to bounce this 12 song live album with markers so I get seamless entire album with markers denoting song breaks to be able to forward 1-12 ...? I have the entire album with markers set in DP .... I see there is a bounce audio cd disk image image feature...

Re: Where did DP control go to?
Thank you both. I’m still clinging to my old iPhone 4S, so that explains it. Guess I have yet another reason to keep clinging to it besides the fact its mic filter can be bypassed by AudioTools. DP Control is a handy app sometimes, especially when I’m out in the studio adjusting a headphone mix, or ...

Where did DP control go to?
I got a new iPad for Christmas, and I went to download all the apps that I’ve had on my iPhone. In the App Store, under previously purchased, the icon for DP control, the app that lets you remotely control Digital Performer from the iPhone, was grayed out. When I did a search in the Apple App Store ...
