Re: Replacing ALL of the caps on my 1248 and one on my 16A…

Same here. I had to pull a synth module to make it work. Now it’s just sidelined.

Re: Replacing ALL of the caps on my 1248 and one on my 16A…

FWIW, I now leave a 1/2 rack space open on each side of my two 16As and 828ES units. I end up losing 2U of rack space, and it looked a little funky at first… BUT I’ve had no heat related issues since even if I leave the units on for extended periods. They run warm (as they typically do), but not ext...

Re: Sudden high pitch distorted sound: Why is my new interface doing this?

Brand new MOTU UltraLite mk5 works perfectly… until it does not. All of a sudden, the sound gets crazy with high pitch distorted peaks. I change the sample rate from 96K to 44K and the audio becomes normal again. Then switch back to 96K and the audio remains normal. (It does not seem to the be a pr...

Transitioning from Drobo to WD My Cloud Pro Series…some questions?

Hi folks, I back up everything…my main HD, a project HD, and all of my samples drives. All of those drives have a total capacity of 28TB. I’m probably using somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 - 20 TB.) I also have a separate 8TB project archive disk that I like to back up. A part of my backup routi...

Re: 16A long startup time?

Yeh. They take a while to start. If you notice the time getting longer, or the process restarting/rebooting before eventually coming on line, you likely have capacitors that need replacing. At least that was the case in two of the 16As I’ve had. Should not be too difficult or that expensive if you h...

Re: Is DP 11.22 and Slate Raven MTi2 viable combo in 2023?

One other thing…Slate will enable multitouch channel strip fader control in DP, but you will have to use Slate’s mixer overlay. It’s the same one they use in all other DAWs (except Studio One). It looks quite different, but it is functional and pretty straightforward to use.

Re: Is DP 11.22 and Slate Raven MTi2 viable combo in 2023?

Hi James. I’ve had a Raven for a while. In fact, I had two for years but sold one when I noticed I really was not using the second that much. A couple of thoughts: - I would recommend against using a VESA mount. The monitor is heavy for one, and you really do want it to be on a firm surface. - It ha...

Re: Mac Studio - options

Thanks again for a good solution. I assume I can get an HDMI to Thunderbolt adaptor for the Apple Studio Display. I wonder what the limit is for Thunderbolt and why. I will definitely stay away from the 1 year warranty Corning cable. Oh that's right. I forgot that the Studio Display was TB only...I...

Re: Mac Studio - options

Thanks for the info regarding the Corning cable. Oy. I need at least 12 feet and Apple's cable gets me to 10 feet. I did see some Thunderbolt extension cables on Amazon (a few feet). I wonder if it would work with Apple's 10 foot cable. I am only plugging in a Wacom tablet and a Contour Design Shut...

Re: Mac Studio - options

Thank you Gentlemen. That $360 Corning optical Thunderbolt cable could be attached to an OWC Thunderbolt Hub (which has its own power) and then I can plug in stuff. Basically, I have a cart that I roll around into different positions based on what I am doing - keyboard, piano, or mixing. It has my ...

Re: Data Backup Strategy

Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. Just a couple of quick questions… <SNIP> I use NAS boxes connected via Ethernet and to my WiFi router so that all six Macs in my network back up to the same three TM drives. Like the late Ron Popeil, I "Set it and forget it." WD and Seagate have NAS boxes that...

Re: Avoid latest Newfangled Invigorate Update v1.2.4

Thanks for the heads up as I was about to update those. This is off topic, but you touched on it in your post: ProTools plugin validation scheme is like something out of the 90s. I have a LOT of plugins, and it never makes it through the process without hanging. Yet, amazingly for 2023, Protools can...

Re: MOTU 16A Recurring Hardware Problem: Low Power Detected Rebooting

Now I'm wondering if someone makes partial height blanks... preferably perforated. :) Well, lo' and behold! https://www.amazon.com/Elcom-R1286-05UVK-VENTED-PANEL/dp/B00LHQ63MU It's 1/2U but that's cool. At least they're out there. Maybe some are cheaper. But I guess if you do 1/4U, the gap is so sm...
