I switch between the Sequence view and Tracks view often. Say I have 25 tracks in the project. I may choose to only view 5 of those in the Sequence view. I then move to the track view and work with another track or inadvertantly highlight tracks. Or, maybe I've selected all for a bounce...when I go back to sequence view, suddenly it shows me all the tracks. Very annoying. Is there anyway for DP to remember what tracks you have in the sequence view, or quickly switch between which tracks are visable? Or turn off whatever feature has it show me tracks I highlight in the Tracks view.

I find the same thing with the mixing console. I'll have a bunch of tracks up, switch over to the sequence view to do something, and when I return to the mixer, it's not the same. I'd like to know if there's a trick I've missed.

You might have clicked on something in the other view, which would change the "active tracks" when you go back to the mixer view?

the trick is to not close the mixing board window. if you reopen it, only selected tracks show up. if no tracks are selected, the last selection is remembered.

i always keep it open, but have it hidden when i don't need it. when i hit shift-m to bring it to the top, it's as i left it.

I use it in Coloidated view where only 1 window is allowed in the center pane so that I can quickly flip between Tracks View, Sequence, or Edit view. Can I have two identical consolidated windows maybe?

I also prefer to keep my mixer as a separate window. When in consolidated mode, I'll bring up the mixer, click the pop-out button (manual, pg 60) and leave it open as a separate window while I do the rest of my work in the main window. Shift-M makes it easy to get to quickly. I'm lucky enough to have two monitors, so I leave the mixer (and plug-ins) in my right screen with the consolidated window in the left.

as npatton mentions above, you can "tear off" the sequencer editor and have it always open, but behind the consolidated window when you don't need it.

you could also split the main window with tracks on top and sequence editor on bottom, but that would squeeze out your viewable space of each quite a bit.

my personal preference is to forgo consolidated windows altogether and just use key commands (and expose) to bring windows to the top.

I just haven't been able to embrace the consolidated window thing as of yet.

I do a combination that I like. It's best when you have 2 monitors. I put my mixer on the 2nd monitor by itself, as mentioned above, plus some other little ones, like Markers or Movie. The consolidated window is mostly the Tracks window, but also shows little windows I use less frequently, that pop up w/ a key command when needed, such as Soundbites or Event. They're right in front of me, and I don't have to look elsewhere for them, then just close 'em again.

The keyboard shortcut for popping out a Window by itself is CTRL-1. Handy.

sounds good. i think one of the reasons i never use consolidated windows is that i only have one monitor and it's not very big. the consolidated window takes up extra real estate because things don't overlap and you have the extra frames between elements.

when i finally get two 23 inch monitors (some day soon i hope), i will definitely put the mixer and plugs on one monitor and everything else on the other. maybe then i'll look into the consolidated window thing again.

Oh, don't wait. I'm serious. 2 monitors makes it a whole new world. So much easier to work efficiently. Get a crappy used one now. Anything. Trust me on this one.
