Gordon Reid's expansive synth tutorials are now all available online.

I've gone through a number of them myself with MX4 in front of me. What he usually does, especially in the earlier ones, is deconstruct a real instrument (brass, strings, drums), then reconstruct the sound using a variety of methods, often choosing a specific instrument (or two or three) to create the patches.

It is interesting is to realize that in a lot of cases, MX4 is a superset of the examples. It is rare to not have an envelope, LFO, modulation routing or filter mode when you need one. It is also nice to be able to dial in precise filter settings (17 semitones above the root note, for example).

Anyway, these tutorials are extremely valuable, and I think you'll learn a lot about synthesis and MX4 in the process.

Hey stretta, thanks for the link -- SoundOnSound is such a great magazine (I love DP Notes), and these look great.
