828mkii LED flash pattern firewire freezes on boot
Posted: Wed Feb 08, 2006 7:19 am
My 828mkii has started to flash when I connect it via
firewire400 to my pc. It currently is flashing the bottom peak
meter for ch3&4 and 44.1 clock sync alternatly. Previously it
flashed the bottom three meter leds for ch3&4 and 48 clock sync
If I turn the unit off (while leaving it connected ot the
computer, and no audio programming running on the computer) it
hangs before showing the version. ("MOTU 828mkII CueMix DSP")
as soon as you disconnect the firewire cable from the computer
it proceeds to display firmware version (1.01), and runs
normally.
Re-connecting the firewire cable to the pc leads to the bottom
two most leds on ch3&4 flashing in a downward pattern, (1 then
2, 1 then 2) and 48 flashing. Disconnecting returns it to the
normal state. . with the exception the unit is now set to 48Khz.
Resetting the 828mkii back to it's factory presets and re-
plugging it in yields the same led pattern.
Shut down the computer. Which clears the entire pagefile on
exit. MOTU is shutdown
Motu is turned on, pc is turned on, the MOTU begins flashing
as soon as firewire has power.
booting a live slackware 2.6 kernel MOTU flashes untill init
starts autoconfiguring devices, then sets to 48Khz. Restarting
the PC and booting off MBR to windows reconizes the MOTU and
changes clock sync to 44.1Khz (correct conditions.)
MOtu is turned off and on -- correct functioning
PC is turned off and on -- Correct functioning
? ? what's happening ?
In addition to this 828mkii, I use another at work, and that
one also flashes at times when I connect. (Altho never as bad
as when writing tonight) generally restarting fixes it: here
is all needed information:
----===== Spec List =====----
Pheonix BIOS
Sager 5670 P4-HT Prescott 3Ghz, 1G DDR400 Ram
ATI & Realtek AC'97 on-board
TI OCHI IEEE 1394 Host Controller
828mkii v1.01 IRQ21 (no conflicts)
::::Device Manager - by Connection:::
MOTU FireWire Audio -> TI firewire host controller
TI -> INtel 82801EB PCI Bridge 244E
(ENE CB1410 cardbus, Realtek ethernet, & Intersil
WLAN on same PCI bridge)
PCI -> ACPI MS Compliant
At first I thought it was a driver thing, or because my laptop
changes locations, and it needed to re-start to reconize
different 828's. But it hung before drivers were loaded, and
there is no reason a *nix boot should fix it. POssibly the motu is
hanging around in RAM, and loading init into memory is
overwriting it . . . . please help me figure this problem
