Can someone complie a complete OSX optimization post?

I went searching for this and so many came up my head began to spin.
If someone out there like Sooshie or James or some of youreal organized types with some spare time could compact these into one concise sticky, I know I would really appreciate it and I think it would be a real nice add for all of us. Maybe I missed it and it's already been done if so let me know.

Very helpful. I remember a few other things like diablotin to turn off fonts and shadow killer which I have set up to work at login.
A concise list and directions on all of this would be nice still.

In a recent issue of MacWorld there was a blurb on a command line method of exiting dashboard.
Does anybody know of an easy way to exit dashboard? I guess I could insert the shell command into a script or automator action, but I've gotten lost trying to program applescript before.

Yea. I would like to disable dashboard and spotlight if it helps speed.

I don't think Dashboard on or off helps much - I had it off for a while and noticed nada - but if you go to VersionTracker.com, dollars to donuts there's a script or utility that will do what you want.
Native Instruments also has osx optimization tricks on its website as well.

You can disable Dashboard With Onyx application easily.

In the same MacWorld article where they described how to turn off dashboard, it stated that each dashboard widget occupies about 5MB of RAM. You can check the actual amount with the Activity Monitor.
I don't recall if they stated how much RAM just the dashboard application sans widgets takes up.
If you're tweaking your system by turning off things like fonts and shadows, it seems to me that turning off dashboard would be a no brainer.

I have Onyx loaded but don't see a way to turn off spotlight.
What is the procedure?
