G4 dual 1.7 to a G5 dual 2.7

Hey Guys I'm thinking of the move to a G5 dual 2.7 from my G4 dual 1.7
what would be my supprise. I have dp 4.61, 2 UAd-1 cards, Miroslav Philharmonic, Ozone and (nomad factory Ess. studio suite) and last Reason 3.04. Well my G4 is maxed, audio recording is ok but the Miroslav loves the CPU and runs in dp4.5 only. Reason is cool but that to runs out of Gas I would like to Sync reason with dp and run Miroslav together would a G5 dual 2.7 cut it.
Thanks
Billy

And your question is.....What would be your surprise???
How much HP you have left. How your DP performance meter cuts down by 75% and so on
How many combinator patches you can run......
G4 dual 1.7 l Vs G5 Dual 2.7

I quess thats my ?????????? can I suspect a big gain in CPU power.
Just say for instance Reason is peaked to it's max now, 85 to 90 percent. About how much more would this project gain in a G5 loading this project a this point.
I know it's hard to pindown what would be a good quess.
Thanks

reasonably speaking about 125% increase minimum

OK reasonably speaking about 125% increase minimum
So I load this tune from Reason 90% CPU on the G4, now into the G5 and play the song unchanged.
The CPU would read 35% or less is this what you mean. I what to make sure I understand.
Thanks

Well...
I think it's conservatively safe to say you'll experience a marked improvement in CPU use. Which is to say, I think the step up to the G5 would be good, practical investment for you, given you rely on VIs. As to whether it translates into the numbers stated above is tough to say.

Thanks for the input, I hope to have the G5 pretty soon. I'll post the results when All said and done.
Thanks

Where did you get a G4 dual 1.7? The highest production G4s ever went was dual 1.42. Did you get after market upgrades? Just curious.

OK cool. Where are you getting your G5 dual 2.7 from? I am thinking of snapping one of these up since they still support PCI/PCI-X, but Apple is no longer selling them from their store, which they were continuing to do up until recently, in spite of them not being advertised on the store page. Are you getting one from eBay or something?

Hey billlydrummerboy: I just got a dual 2.7, to run DP (or PT LE) ReWired to Reason 3.0, with Sampletank 2 and Amplitube as plug-ins, along with a pair of UAD-1's. Similar to what you're planning, I think. Been busy with the day job, and I'm still installing all of my hard/software and doing updates at this point, but I'll post some kind of performance benchmark, once it's all done.
Hey Resonant Alien- I'm new to this list, but already fond of saying that you can still get a 2.7 refurb from the Apple Store for $2,149 plus tax. Free shipping, and same-as-new warranty (1 year AppleCare). I ordered one a couple of weeks ago, and it shipped same day. It also arrived with 1GB RAM, instead of the advertised 512MB. Bonus! Arrived just fine.

Perhaps not a surprise, but if you are not buying a new monitor with the G5, you'll need Apple's DVI to ADC Adapter. I had one laying around from using two monitors on my G4 so was good to go. But I definitely didn't consider this when I upgraded.
I have made that upgrade and...

Hi everyone, I just made that same upgrade this week, and I‘m kind of worried about the results. I had a QuickSilver upgraded with a Dual 1,7 G4 from Gigadesigns, 1Gb Ram, an UAD card and a PCI424 which worked very well. I mostly do recording with no VIs, just audio tracks and lots of plugins when mixing. Last week I got my new G5 Dual 2,7, 512Mb Ram, 250GB Sata HD and now I can‘t even play back songs that where mixed (with not much effort may I say) on the G4 without getting CPU overloads and audio clicks on the G5!!

.
I‘m assuming that the problem is that there is not enough ram, although I‘ve monitored the use of ram and the paging of the OS and there seems to be no sign of that being the bottleneck. Anyway, today I‘m getting 2GB of extra RAM to clear the doubts.
I‘ll post my results as soon as possible, but in the mean time, if anybody has any advises would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
psuescun
