When I slave sync the 2408 to anything other than internal (I've tried both wordclock from a GENx6-96, ADAT optical from a Tascam DM24), I get a short quiet white noise burst in the left side and about 1/2 second later in the right. It sounds like two sweeps of a broom. I took every other connection out of the 2408 except the Audio Wire, power and Wordclock and still get the problem. It is synced, there are no blinking lights. If I switch to 48k the sound burst are slightly less frequent and last a bit longer. If I switch to internal as the clock source the sounds is gone. What's going on? Is the unit broken? I can't help wondering if it relates to having reinstalled XP and downloading the most recent drivers from the MOTU site.

Any ideas?

The intermittent "white noise" you're hearing is indicative of an improper word clock connection, so it sounds like you're on the right track. Have you tried connecting to the BNC connector (word clock out) on the DM-24 to the BNC in on the 2408? Be sure to check the Out/Thru switch settings on the back of the mixer. Set the 2408 to "2408: Word Clock" in the console app. Also, make sure to check the settings on the Digtal page of th DM-24 as well, that it is transmitting the correct sample rate. I use INT 44.1k. The Fs status on the mixer should then show it is locked, the 44.1k and Ext lights on the 2408 should be lit and solid, and the noise should go away....

Oh...and I see you have the most recent drivers from MOTU. A lot of users
have had issues with newer motherboards with the drivers dated 08-04-2004. I had issues as well and went back to the ones issued on 03-26-02. Here.....

(I've read somewhere that the PCI-424 drivers also work with the 324, but not the updated Cuemix. I don't use that anyway, and I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.)

The new drivers, I mean the old drivers, did the trick! Thanks so much. There must be some other working drivers because this was the first time I ever saw DA-88 as the choice instead of TDIF. Anyway smooth and clean, sounds fine, thanks again... hard to believe MOTU doesnt mention this and offer alternatives in their download section for the 2408.
