Echo Gina PCI card?

Post by glsimonsen »

Well, my M-audio Duo interface finally quit and I need something new. I don't need portability for my powermac so I'm thinking the Echo Gina PCI card. I can't afford much beyond that.

Can anyone affirm this choice for use w/ G5 and DP4.61?

Thanks, Glenn

Well, I own one which I have in my second Giga PC. (It has great GSIF drivers.) I have only used it briefly in my old Mac which I was using as a Reason slave. It worked well there but I did not try it with DP.

It sounds quite nice actually. It would be a step up in audio quality from any of the M-Audio stuff that I've heard.

They seem to keep pretty up to date with Mac OS updates judging by their web site.

Be careful of using an old Echo Gina cards with the new OS 10.4.5. Check Echo Audio's support site for the particular card you're thinking of. I have an old Gina 20 that I took out because echoaudio.com won't support this old OS 9 era card. They offer an unsupported driver, but it froze my system which required a complete reinstall. Also, I went back to OS 10.4.3 which runs DP 4.61 on my old dual 450 G4.
