DP 4.6 on a networked laptop and G5 together plus mlan

I currently start to run into audio breakup with my 828mk2 on my dual 1.8 G5 (4 gig. ram and 10.3.9) in a score that has 1 instance (and multiple MIDI channels) of Stylus RMX, Collossus, Kontakt, Mach5, Atmosphere, RA and Absynth. Having "graduated" from meager plug in bandwidth on my Alubook I'm used to working around the issue with freeze tracks, etc. but somehow I thought the jump to dual G5 would bring more plug-in power than I'm getting. The thought that I could run a couple of softsynths on my alubook via ethernet intruigues me but here's the rub. I've been using the laptop seamlessly as an mlan router and run Studio manager for my 01V96 mixer with mlan and a MotifES with Mlan. Since mlan is such a bandwidth hog I only use the Motu 828 as the hardware driver in DP and the Mlan works "in the background" on my laptop routing 8 channels of mlan audio from the Motif to the 01V96 which combines it with 8 analog 828mk2 channels and 8 ADAT 828 tracks. Am I opening a can of worms by trying to run a softsynth or 2 on the laptop into DP? Forgetting about mlan for moment are any people out there happily using both their G5 and laptop locked together with DP in tracking and mixing sessions?
