Okay, do you guys use triggers on your drums? Right now we're facing a kick drum that my boss would really like to retrigger, he just doesn't like the way it sounds, even with tweaking. So my questino is... is the MOTU trigger plug-in worth dealing with, or should we look at drumagog or somethign like that? So far i've been able to trigger okay with the MOTU one, but ij've used Drumagog in the past and really liked it.

Any suggestions?

Drumagog is the way to go, or beat detective on someones PT rig. Trigger is a great idea but it doesn't work right for accurate drum replacement.

The trigger plug-in in DP doesn't seem to be very accurate. Neither is Soundreplacer in Pro-tools. Drumagog is one way to go, but I can't possibly say enough about Aptrigga. It does everything you want it to do. It's incredibly flexable and it is nearly invisible.

avoid clavia Ddrum triggers, the kick drum is hopeless and double triggers all the time. If you are a metal artist this may suit you!! Yamaha do a great module to convert a mic signal into triggers, works perfectly every time. Will get back to you with the model, i'm not a drummer (but i know loads)

Actually, the ddrum triggers are quite good when used with the ddrum modules. Many of the top metal bands have been using ddrum triggers and ddrum modules (ddrum AT / ddrum3 / ddrum4) for a long time. They have been the best choice that works to the drummers' (and drum techs") satisfaction. They are so good that they tend to cause problems when used with cheaper, less competent trigger modules. The lion's share of the problems are due to lackluster modules.

The three best choices are;
Apptrigga2, Apptrigga2 and Apptrigga2.

apTrigga2....hands down....it is fast, no latency, cheap and just plain works.

We have been testing Drumagog but it doesn‘t seem to be too accurate. Some hits are off by a random amount of ms on the Advanced Mode. The Simple Mode has proven to be the best choice. Drumagog is ok when the real sound is not used at the same time (snare track, aux send to an aux track with Drumagog inserted).

I have been trying out a method of using a long track with sine wave, beat detecting a snare track, selecting both snare track and sine wave, Copy Beats from snare track to sinve wave track, Create Soundbites From Beats on sine wave track, set all lenghts app 16th notes, open pitch, copy pitch to a MIDI track. Now I have the snare track as MIDI too.
This way the hits are in correct place but usually after cutting it is very important to check that the cuts are in correct places.
Mayby Motu should make a new "audio to MIDI plugin" using this techique including the velocity of a track.

Mayby I should get a patent for it?
