Scarbee RSP and MachFive

Post by matt »

I've been looking at Scarbee RSP. The demos sound amazing. I asked them about using it with MachFive and they weren't very encouraging concerning MachFive's translation of the programs. They claim that they did each format from the ground up and suggested getting the Halion Player, which I'd much rather not do. Is anyone here using Scarbee RSP with MachFive? If so, was there a lot of work involved in getting the program correct? Also, which format would be the best in terms of the translation?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I also asked them whether these rhodes samples work in M5 or not, they told me they tried loading it in M5 and it didn't work at all !!! So it would be wise to hold off on it for now...or maybe wait for M5 version 2.

But someone here mentioned that the KBG/KVC VI works in DP so I went ahead and bought it...luckily for me, I bought it a week or two ago when they were having a special 40% off on ALL their products. :D

iMas,

How did the Scarbee VI work?

I'd like to get the new Imperial Drums XL VI but I see the Steinberg Key is required. The only Steinberg Key product I own, groove agent 2 crashes DP everytime.

At this point, I'm a little reluctant to get involved with another Steinberg Key product and am thinking of BFD...

It's still in the middle of shipping...I should get it early next week. I'll post here how it works when I get it. I think it's shipping from Europe...or wherever Scarbee is located. But I also want to get the Imperial Drums XL as well...I've been waiting for that for a while now too.

But check out this thread from a couple weeks ago...

You might want to PM mattfort...he was the guy who mentions that Scarbee KGB works great in DP.

I got the Scarbee KBG (Keyboard Gold Bundle) and it's about as good as electric piano gets on a computer. It uses an OEM version of the HALion Player and I'm getting incredible performance with DP 4.61 as an AU plug, but prefer to run it as a Rewire slave. But I should explain my computer rig, because it has a lot to do with the performance I'm getting.

All my Scarbee stuff is on it's own dedicated WD Raptor 10k rpm SATA drive. I have 4 of these connected to a Seritek 1VE4 card on the 133mhz PCIx slot in my G5 (OS 10.4.3) with other VI's such as Quantum Leap RA and Ivory. Running Scarbee in Rewire mode allows me to assign even more ram to the sample pre-load and voice buffer settings because in Rewire mode, the Scarbee HALion player is it's own application using it's own pool of ram. I have 8 gig of ram and only about 3 gig of it is available to DP and anything DP is hosting.

However, whatever the performance capability of your system, the sound and playablility of the Scarbee instruments is fantastic.

Hmmm, somethings wrong with the steinbergs activiation key thing...now DP won't even open without quitting. Even though I registered both the halion player and VKC...on the AU test, it still says it's not Licensed...yea, whatever steinberg. Waiting for scarbee's tech support. Not happy right now. :( (I always hated anything "steinberg"...ughhh...I got this product because I thought scarbee's keys were worth the risk.)

You know what folks...even when I get this issue resolved...I might still get rid of it. If today is any indication of what problems may lie in the future with Stienbergs key/Halion instabilities or what nots...I don't want any part of it. I'm already regretting the purchase.

Like I've said earlier, I have always had bad experiences with stienberg products. I have always vowed to never have anything "stienberg" on my computer. But VKC sounded too good to pass up...so I went for it. But after today...my doubts about stienberg and their stability on macs only resurfaces.

Well, yea, I'm already considering selling it. I bought it 40% off, because I bought it on Mr.Scarbee's birthday. The total came out to $213.91.
So that's the price I'll sell it for. Right now, it's at $349 if you buy it @ scarbee.com or anywhere else. So if there's any brave souls out there that don't mind putting up with steinberg...then you can buy it off me (if I do end up selling it). PM me if you're insterested in buying it. You can have all the registration, etc., of course.

I might just wait until MACH V2 comes out...and see if scarbee's samples would load in there, because I know it doesn't load in V1.x.

Now, I'm going to get that stienberg license/key crap off my computer so I can actually OPEN up dp again.....ughhhhh !!!!!

Same here....same here. No more Imperial Drums for me. Stienberg is owned by the devil himself.

Just to clarify, I'm not bashing Scarbee (they make great "sounding" products for sure), I just question their reason for using Halion and not Kontakt as the VI player.

iMas, have you tried converting any of the "lite" programs into MachFive? There's an RSP version that's 8 rather than 12 velocity levels and they're only on the white keys. I believe MachFive could handle that number of samples. If it works you wouldn't have install the Steinberg key.

I've also had really bad experiences with Steinberg and swore off of their stuff about 8 years ago. It sounds like not much has changed. I really thought I was teaching them a lesson.

I'm not aware of any "lite" versions on this. I bought the VKC sampler player, not the sample library.

Oh I see, I thought VKC was just a collection of the sample libraries. Thanks.
