WD Raptor for OS

Post by snicka »

I just purchased a Western Digital 74GB Raptor HD that I want to use as my OS drive.

I currently use the drive that came with my Dual 2.3GHz G5 for the OS drive.

What is the best way to install the new drive?

Should I pull the current OS drive, attach the new drive, boot from CD and format & install? Or is there a better way?

Thanks.

In my humble opinion that's overkill for the system drive. Do you have a Raptor as your audio drive? If not use it for that.

I don't think you'll get that much improvement with a 10K drive for your system.

just my $.02

Really?

Is that the general consensus? Anyone else care to chime in?

I do not have a Raptor for my audio drive, but a 7200 RPM SATA drive.

Thanks.

Actually, I believe a 10,000rpm system drive is a good thing. It won't be a huge improvement, but things should seem a bit snappier. A clean install is always good, but if your system is stable then maybe you'd want to use the disk copy utility.

I agree with westla it is better as an audio drive. When tracking or mixing the System drive gets WAY less action than the audio drive.
