DP11 + Sequoia Bugs?

After my reliable older Mac died, I had to upgrade to a Mac Pro 2019 Intel, running Sequoia v.15.5.

I don’t know if anyone else is having similar problems, but I’ve noticed that DP11 v.11.34 has begun to show bugs - possibly due to incompatibility with Sequoia 15.5.

It would take too long to describe DP’s strange new behaviours in detail, but bugs I’ve experienced include:
  • MIDI data blocks re-appearing in the Tracks window after that MIDI data has been deleted.
  • Recorded MIDI data blocks not appearing in the Tracks window on file opening (even though the MIDI data is there).
  • VST2, VST3 & AU plugin APIs not appearing (or functioning) when the 'instantiated' plugin is double-clicked from the Inserts socket, even after those plugins have been updated.
  • The counter measure setting not automatically appearing in the step-time MIDI record window (command-9); the previously-used measure reading shows up instead.
  • MIDI events not pasting onto single selected Markers in the Event list windows (I think it gets pasted at the counter setting instead).
  • Redundant curly stave brackets appearing on single-stave tracks in the QuickScribe editor (they then have to be deleted manually).
  • Phrase marks in the QuickScribe editor refusing to hook to the right (selected) end note.
  • The Movie window not always updating position when switching from one sequence Chunk to another.
  • DP11 crashing (doesn’t happen often, but does so more frequently than it used to).

:?

I’ve updated to the latest versions of MOTU drivers, DP and Mac operating system, cleared caches and re-started etc. Issues persist.

I hope that developers will fix this drop in dependability soon.

For me, none of this is specific to OS 15.5-- it's early days for that OS, and I've not done much in DP since updating.

With 15.4 (and previous) there are lots of bugs in QuickScribe here. Stuck notes that can't be dragged up/down. (Weirdly, the issues with the note respell seem to have been fixed). Barlines at the ends of lines sometimes shifted over so there's ~1/8" blank space between staff and end line. Weird colored lines appear on display. But generally, it's pretty functional.

DP still crashes pretty often for me. Usually, I can get back most lost work with auto-saves.

I have not had a DP crash in a long time including in Sequoia 15.5. I do not use QuickScribe, however. Instead, I export via MusicXML 3.0 and open in Finale.

I upgraded to a new MacMini M4 that already had Sequoia installed, so I reluctantly went with it. Definitely having issues with DP - pretty much a crash every day now, where it was only very occasional before. Having consistent weird cursor issues when soundbite editing, which is 90% of my work. I have a support ticket in for that and sent them video. Basically the cursor gets stuck on the arrow and crossfade little squares disappear and several other related anomalies.

I went ahead and did several OS incremental updates thinking "what do I have to lose" but no help and might even be worse for it. Apple is relentless in demanding we do these upgrades.

FWIW Sequoia also broke some DSP-Quattro features I use all the time, too. And Apple's own Focus "feature" is as broken as anything could be.

Let's hope OS 16 "Shrubbery" is an improvement.

Every new Mac OS involves welcoming new features (some good, some a hassle); and a host of perfectly good things that are now broken forever; and things that were broken long ago, never to be fixed.

I think at some point, I would have said, Apple makes it look easy. Now they make it look very very difficult. :smash:

I get those two graphic bugs now and then (not constantly, very occasionally) on my M1 Ultra. They don't stick around or impede my editing in a significant way.

Arrow Cursor Stick is fixed by moving the mouse to another area in DP or into Finder.

The Crossfade Square Disappearance is fixed simply by changing the horizontal zoom one click. While editing, I typically have one hand on/near my shuttle dial (which is set up to control horizontal zoom) so the fix takes a split second. In four hours of editing yesterday, I encountered this once.

I've noticed the issues, but they have been so rare as to not cause me worry (and I do a ton of audio editing in my work). That said, please feel free to reference my experiences in your interaction with MOTU. System specs below. I will note that the bugs you describe have been around for a long time; can't; recall when they started, but could be all the way back to my 4,1 and 5,1 Mac Pros, and under Monterey, Sonoma and Sequoia on Apple Silicon.

I am experiencing none of the issues described by lampfilmusic, although some of them I would never encounter due to differing workflow.

Thanks for that!
Ditto on lampfilmusic's issues as I don't use those features either.

The bug I've had for years and years through many OS and DP versions is I'll have the crosshair cursor in the bottom part of a soundbite, I'll click and drag for what should be a time selection and instead it moves the soundbite. Totally random as far as the cause and happens 4 or 5 times an hour as I'm editing, but never constantly.
But the newer cursor issues (in my earlier post) are even weirder and in addition to the above.

Thanks mikehalloran, philbrown, stubbsonic and HCMarkus for your comments. Interesting that I’m not alone in observing these bugs.
