I used to use the Tranzport to control DP when recording vocals remotely in my both
Of course that is outdated now
They used to have some ipads apps that worked reasonably
Is there anything now that works well with DP?
Hardwire cable USB or bluetoooth?
TIA
Don

If you're okay with using WiFi, Avid Control (for iPad/iPhone) in the Apple App Store works pretty well, and can also do a whole lot of other things, too.

Yeah MIDI via iPad is a great way to go these days.
A few decades ago, our engineers had each booth and cutting area with MIDI ports in wall plates. (as if they were XLRs). And we used a really compact tool called the JL Cooper CS-32 Minidesk. CRAZY amount of stuff it could do, though so very small.
Yep. The server app must be running in the background.

Any suggestions?
Try Avid Control. It’s free. It uses EUCON, does transport control, programmable soft keys, mixing control, plug-in adjustment and more.

I downloaded the Avid App James
I went to the Avid site and downloaded the Eucon install
I know you are busy and traveling, so no rush for sure
I am no where near actually needing to use the control surface
I opens, but doesn’t link with DP
there is no DAW showing on the app
But when you do actually get back home and have time
Would you mind walking me through the set up ?
I know you are very busy and I really hTe to ask, but this is stumping me
I have not had any success with the Meta grid either
Whew!

I can try.
You need to install EUCON. And also give permission to EuControl and MC Client (?) in one of the privacy prefs. It should tell you.
Be sure both your Mac and the iPad are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Launch DP and also launch Avid Control. If Avid Control is not connected I think it displays a little warning icon (triangle with an exclamation point in the center) at the upper left.
Go to Control Surface Seup in DP and choose the EUCON (or is it EuControl) option. Hopefully at that point the warning icon in Avid Control goes away. You should then be able to load a project and see tracks populate, etc.
If not, click the little “E” icon in the Mac’s menu bar and choose EuControl Setup (or something similar). A window will open up and there are tabs across the top. One of them may say surfaces?? I’m doing this from memory. But if you choose the right one, you should then see two empty list boxes side by side and Avid Control should be visible in the left box. Select it and click the “Add” button. Hopefully that should do it. It might be required if it’s the first time you’re using it.
Just remembered too… this is fairly new… in the EuControl Settings there’s a tab that says “Applications?” Choose that and then add DP to the list. I think you may need to find DP in the Finder and drag it into that window.
From that point of you get it working, you can explore. I’d love to be able to explain more but I’m 3,000 miles from my studio in Maui right now.

James
Thanks so much for help! Gradually getting there
I’m still having some difficulty
I was able to download, give permission to eucon and mc client
Stuck at this point
I have a big black (blank)
box for the Avid control desktop on my monitor
My ipad app is open. But not showing any connection to DP
I do still see the very small triangle with exclamation in it
“If not, click the little “E” icon in the Mac’s menu bar and choose EuControl Setup (or something similar).”
I can’t locate this!

Eucon control settings?
On the ipad?
I don’t see this option

I think what you might have missed is you have to launch DP, and then open a project, and then from DP's "Setup" menu, choose "Control Surface Setup..."
In that dialog you need to add Control Surface by clicking the little "+" button. Then choose "EuCon" from the pop up menu. See below and the item bordered in red:
