Audio Export: 32 Float?

Post by stubbsonic »

I have some 32-float recordings from a new Zoom recorder. I'm working with them in a DP project. When I go to export audio, the options I've tried don't seem to work. With the CoreAudio wav option, I see 32-float in the list, but when I select it, it doesn't take-- (stays 16-bit). If I choose 32-fixed, it does take.

I tried another option, (Broadcast wav) and DP crashed.

I suppose I can just drag copies out of the audio folder. But that's less-than-ideal.

Any ideas how to properly export in 32-float? AIFF or WAV is fine. (It's mono).

This works but I don't use it. No one asks me for 32bit floating point. Adobe Premiere and Premiere Elements crash (or did) when I tried to use those tracks. So, while I record and work in 32bit FP, I export 24bit.

I wouldn't typically use Bouncing for a simple export of an existing single Soundbite. (Actually, I almost never use bouncing at all).

My workaround in this case was to just option-drag the files right out of the audio folder, so that worked.

Seems like the audio export (from the soundbites window) is still a little wonky.

I thought I'd stay in 32-float until I do the final level, EQ, and dynamics, then export in 24-bit after that. It's a 5 hour audio book in 12 chapters.

Only in the way that it displays. Otherwise, I have no problems with it at all.

I stay in 32b fp all the way—much greater headroom. I only convert to 24 on Export to other studios and BTD. I changed to this when doing virtual choirs in 2020 and it was like the fog had liften on my workflow as levels were much easier to control. There is no downside that I can find and I'm never going back.

I know that once I've gotten the levels up to a respectable value-- thus squeezing out all the advantages of that high resolution-- then I can haircut to 24 bit. That's because of the destination (Audible). Apparently, I will have to SRC from 48K to 44.1K.
