old 828x and new M2 Mac Mini

I have been using the 828x with a 2014 Mac Mini Intel, OS 14.7 via USB.
I have a new Mac Mini M2 and I'd like to keep using the 828x if possible.
I see in some posts that the Thunderbolt 2 on the 828x was adapted FW 400, so is there any point in trying to use a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor from the 828x to the new Mac?
I have an adaptor on order to keep using my old Thunderbolt dock to connect USB drives and devices.
Just looking for advice on how to move forward.
TIA

You can connect via the Apple TB2–3 adapter or by USB 2. You are correct in assuming that TB is a built in adapter for FW400 and not FW800, which MOTU never supported. On paper, USB 2 should have lower RTL (round trip latency) if it supports the
Fast USB 2 standard. The 828x manual calls it
high-speed USB2 which may or may not be the same thing.
If you have connectivity problems, get a
USB Printer Cable from Amazon. Not all USB cables support 2/1.1 anymore but these cables support nothing else. They are available in all configurations–you want USB-B to USB-C.

If you are otherwise connecting fine, of course, no need for that cable.

Alrighty then, that sounds like a good strategy.
I think I have lots of older USB cables around that I can try before ordering more, but I will save your reply.
Thanks!

Works fine over USB, the cost just to connect it over TB isn't worth it. Seems picky with USB hubs though, mine has to be plugged into one of the A ports on the back. And for some reason if I power up my AMT8 MIDI interface first, the Mac wont see it and I have to unplug/replug it back in a few times before it does. If the MOTU is turned on before it, everything's fine.
