A bit of advice for an old system please

He guys I picked up an 828X for cheap. Going to replace my 828MKIII with that. I am using my 2012 MacPro. I have the FW800 adapter to TB. My computer is not seeing the unit. I have read Mikes suggestions on other threads. I have the proper driver installed but still does not see it. I tried it on my 2011 MBP and not working there either. The TB works fine on the 828X I tried it with my 2017 MBP. So if I cannot get it working on my 2012 I will use the USB connection. Is it a good idea to buy a PCIe USB card and connect the unit to that or is better to use one of the USB ports on the Mac? Thanks guys always a pleasure !

Do they make a reliable TB PCIe card for a 2012 MacPro ?

Not sure, but pretty sure that adaptor ain't gonna work. I'd head on over to MacRumors to see what's the lates on TB with the 5,1 Mac Pro.

Or use USB.

Thanks Marcus, I figured that out also. I will head over there. I have the USB option and would welcome the best way wether it be on a USB port or a PCIe USB on my Mac, thanks again !

Yeah that Mac aint gonna work with TB anything no matter how you convert it. When I had my 2010 Pro, that thing was rock solid over USB. Nowadays on my M2 Pro Mini, I have to unplug the thing a few times before the computer decides to recognize it.

Maybe change your computer startup/gear powerup sequence... you might find one that works without issue.

I used a built-in USB port on my 5,1 for my 828ES. Worked great.

Thanks for all your help guys ! As we know when we have a setup we have it for awhile and things move so fast forward it is hard to keep up. I am not interested in chasing the "train" so that's why I am sticking with what I have. It works for me.I am totally backed up with 2 computers and 2 interfaces. This forum is great !

The Apple FW to TB adapter is one direction only—it won’t convert TB to FW.

In any case, Fast USB 2 is faster.
