Scary audio incident while using DP 11.22 this morning. I stopped playing a song I was mixing and went to change my buffer setting in DP from 512 to 1024 and got blasted with white noise at full volume coming from my UAD Apollo into my speakers. I have never had this happen before while using DP.

I am running a MacBook Pro - 16” 2019 2.3GHz 8 Core Intel Corei9, 16 GB ram, macOS Big Sur 11.2 along with a UAD Apollo Quad.

One other thing… Lately it’s been taking DP almost 10 minutes to open. What can I do to speed up its performance? Thanks, Fred

I wish I knew, because needless to say it shouldn't take any app almost 10 minutes to open and that's atypical putting it mildly. Something is definitely wrong, but there's not enough info to know what.

I'm leaning towards upgrading my OS from Big Sur to Monterey since my finder is now broken as well...

Some of us found that removing certain cache files made a huge improvement, myself included. /Users/(user)/Library/Preferences caches do not rebuild during a Safe Boot like HD/Library/ cache files do.

Open the following folder;

/Users/(account name)/Library/Preferences/com.motu.MotuAudioSystem/

Delete these files (you may not have all three): Audio Unit Info Cache 64-bit, VST3 Info Cache v2 and VST Info Cache 64-bit. Remove the 32 bit versions also. I also found AudioDesk caches going back to the 1990s in there.

Reboot, relaunch and DP will rebuild those cache files (takes a bit of time when you have over a thousand). Which caches rebuild will depending on what VI preferences you have set.

DP 11 launched much faster and stopped crashing regularly (except right after updating a number of plug-ins). Since I had never done it before, the difference was huge. I later did the same on my 2012 MacBook Pro—differences weren't as great since DP was first installed in 2019 on that machine. Do not do this regularly using Onyx or other utility DP will rebuild those caches every time—you absolutely do not want that.

There is no downside and it may be an improvement. A Safe Boot rebuilds System caches but does not touch Users/… /Preferences/… caches.

The reason this works is because the MacOS will attempt to load corrupt data—usually 3 times—before moving on. This can be seen in Console.app. Clearing caches can improve the performance of many apps but remember that they have to be rebuilt. Once a year or so is not a bad idea. Like DP, many Adobe apps can take forever to rebuild.

I just upgraded to the latest version of DP (10/23/2023). DP is really fast now and it's almost as if I bought a new computer. WOW!
