I know there was recently a pretty important update to iOS for security purposes, so I'll probably go ahead with this one now.

Updated two days ago. I started having problems with spontaneous disc dismounts, but there is no way to link this to the update. I've had this problem off and on for years. Everything else seems OK.

Check your USB power requirements. For me, too many unpowered devices have usually been at the root of these issues.

As for the new OS Update, I just got my M1 Air back from the shop (stuck key, AppleCare replaced the keyboard, no charge, yeah!) and the tech put 13.5.2 on the Mac. Seems fine so far.

This is true. An putting too many devices in a powered hub amounts to the same thing. But in my test partitions and volumes with macOS 12 and 13 I’ve found that dismounts happen more often with fewer devices attached than happens with my main startup volume using 10.14.
