Hi folks - I swear I've searched this forum using various terms, but found no definitive answer. I'm doing an album project. I'm just about done, but the guy who is mixing and mastering is on the other side of the planet. He's also a DP guy. Is there any accurate, reliable method that someone can recommend to transfer DP projects over the internet and have them arrive intact? Ideally without queries from DP about the location of audio files, lost automation, etc.? Dropbox maybe? Zipped and FTPed? Wetransfer? Any suggestions appreciated. Client's paying for his time, so we really can't spend too much time experimenting. Thanks in advance! John

Indeed. Downloading and unzipping onto your own computer grants it the permissions you need to continue.

If collaborating with another and 3rd party plugins or VIs are involved, you both need to have them installed. Ideally, the same directory but that’s not critical. On opening, you can tell DP where to look on your machine but its faster if you don’t have to.

If you are using Gmail, remember there is a file size limit of 25 MB.
And sometimes, Gmail do not allow Zip files to be received. (you can send, no issues)
In that case use Rar format instead.
You can split in to few files if they are very big.
If you are sending to other mail servers of your client, verify if zip files are allowed.

Absolutely! If you have access to an FTP server and a browser (I use Cyberduck, available on the App Store), it's the best way, IMO. If you zip the project, put it on the FTP and then send a direct link in an email, most email programs will automatically download the zipped file when it is clicked on.

And you don't have the speed throttling and privacy concerns associated with WeTransfer, et al.

I used to work for the company that first brought POP and SMTP internet protocols to Windows. IMAP is a Microsoft protocol. Email attachments are zipped automatically and unzipped when you download those attachments to your Mac or PC. There is still the file size limit but there are workaround for some email. Still, you do not have to zip email attachments.

I really like FTP but those DP files, like Dropbox, direct transfer, GoogleDrive, Sync etc. or even sneakernet need to be zipped first.

I believe IMAP was invented by Marc Crispin while he was a stanford. There is an MS thing called MAPI, which is totally different, but the names are similar.

I have had success zipping the project folder and sharing the zipped file via Google Drive.
