DP as looper pedal?

I am wondering if anyone here is tried or found a way to use DP like a typical looper pedal...where you can hit a foot switch to start recording and hit the switch again to start looping...and layer in tracks on the fly, etc.. like a looper pedal...but using DP and its CLIPS feature in a similar way..being able to interact with it in a live way like is usually done with looper pedals.

Anyone done anything like this or know if its possible?

It hasn't been discussed much in recent years, but DP has a feature (in the Studio Menu) called POLAR. (If you didn't already know about it).

That might be an interesting place to look.

From the manual:

The POLAR window is a self-contained audio recording module within the general environment of Digital Performer. What makes POLAR different from Digital Performer's usual audio track-based recording is this: POLAR records your audio entirely into RAM, rather than writing it to a hard disk. Because RAM is so much faster, it allows Digital Performer to be much more interactive with you during recording, allowing you to immediately loop newly recorded material, overdub (merge) new audio data with existing audio, and otherwise respond instantaneously to your actions.

Hi,

Polar is nice but you need to use it with record in and out…
It is not a “free looper”.

I regret Motu didnt develop the polar for an free use…

Actually is not possible to use Polar with a foot controler.
Like an looper pedal.

I hope Motu will consider.
Because there is a big market for looper.
Specialy if you can record your sessions on DP….

I use a stream deck and BOME MIDI translator. In BOME, I record mouse movements and clicks to select from my list of saved times. Then I add a key command to the sequence of those movements and assign them to the stream deck. So I have about 25 meters that I can select, also select new pass on the stream deck. Then I can create phasing loops. I also assign a button on the stream deck to stop recording so I can solo over the loops.

Two things really bug me and I have been asking MOTU to fix this for years. First, add 'saved times' to the commands window. Second, POLAR ins and outs disappear when you switch projects. They stay between sequences but not projects.
