MIDI dropouts with AU VEP

Anyone using the AU version of VE Pro plugin?
I'm getting constant MIDI dropouts on any instrument that's not on Port 1 of any VEP instance. So, any MIDI going to VEP via a VEP Event Input Instrument has the issue. Long notes are usually okay, but any pattern percussion will drop notes. ....this problem drastically limits the usefulness of the AU version of the plugin.
Anyone else seeing this?

Forgive me for not being very helpful here, but is there a reason you're not using the MAS version of VE Pro?

Sry. My mistake. I should have mentioned that I'm on an M1, which is incompatible with the MAS versions.

Hey dix; sorry I don't use VEP... you've helped me out a lot and I'd love to reciprocate. This dog just don't hunt on this excursion.

There are several threads over on the VSL
VEP forum about the latest version(s) of VEP and M1 computers. Seems it wasn't quite ready for prime time when they released it.

The AU version of any plugin only supports one MIDI port. DP should not even be allowing your to use anything other then port 1. Only AU3 supports multiple MIDI ports. I do not think DP is compatible with AU3 yet. Logic Pro barely is.

I've checked the VSL forum. The issues with the latest version of VEP seem to be with crashing and loading etc. I haven't see anything about MIDI timing, or instability. Apart from the timing on non-Port 1 instruments, VEP running in Rosetta is solid for me.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. The instruments within a VEP instance are on what VEP calls "ports". The additional VEP ports are addressed by the individual Event Input instrument plugins in DP - perhaps to get around the limitation you're talking about?
Anyway, there's a world of Logic and other DAW users out there working with large multi-instrument/multi-port VEP instances that don't seem to have this problem. I'm hoping there's something I can do to get DP to (not) do the same. ....of course, once VSL gets around to making the VEP MAS plugin M1 compatible this all goes away. But there's no telling when that will be. Predictably VSL is mum on a timeline.

Ah ok. The EventInput method is, yes, a "hack" around limitations of AU2, which only supports a single MIDI port. There are a number of idiosyncrasies with EventInput and weird things, some people would go so far as to say they avoid it like the plague because of these various weird things in the way it works, because it is not a normal straight ahead use, VSL attempted to find a way to use EventInput plugin itself to route stuff to different MIDI ports in the VePro universe, rather then simple MIDI port assignments as is normally done with VST3/MAS/AAX.

Did you try using VePro.vst3 plugin instead of AU/EventInput? Might be worth a try, but I have personally never gotten VePro.VST3 to work in DP, and it didn't really matter because MAS version has always been so much better. But unfortunately I know the MAS version it not yet working with M1...so I feel your pain. hope it will all get resolved by VSL pretty soon.

Thanks! I wanted to try this, but there's no VST3 version of any of the VEP plugins showing up in the Plugin Prefs to enable. The VST3 versions are in the the VST3 folder on my Mac, and all the other VST3 plugins are present and enable-able, but not VEP. Can you/others see the VST3 versions in your DP prefs?

I see your sig says you’re using the “latest version” of DP. You’re on 11.04 or later right? I *think* that was the first version to have VST3 support?

Yes. I'm usually an early adopter when new versions come out, so that sig requires less maintenance. Currently I'm on 11.1. There's VST3 versions available in the prefs, but I haven't tried any.
