Recordind Wind Controller Continuous Data

Yeeeeeeeeahh ! I got a WX5 so I'm in the wind synth world.
20+ years of saxophone playing and I'm starting over on this thing. I love it. Now, I can avoid step sequencing difficult passages. I can play them on the sax but not on the keyboard. I am having one problem though . . .

I'm working in Digital Performer and I'm trying to record some parts via WX5. DP Tracks the notes very well BUT the volume data is not working properly. When I record and play the wind synth, my behringer control slides all over the place and I can hear the volume data working properly however, when I play back, the volume data isn't there, only the notes are there. The breath controller sends breath on CC#3. But I don't know how to remap that to what ever control DP sees as MIDI volume rather than mixer volume. Somehow my WX5 breath data is going to the mixer rather than to the MIDI note volume.

I'm sure I can record the breath data onto the mixer volume track but that won't allow me to mix. Also, after playing in a big band arrangment, I'm sure I will have killed my BCF200p motorized faders.

How does one map MIDI in DP4.6. BTW, Reason does the same thing. I can map the breath onto the NN-XT volume knob but that is for general volume and not the actual volume of individual notes.

When I record the wind synth in Cubase, Cubase records the breath data as the actual MIDI note volume and plays back exactly what I played in. Crescnedos are smooth and playback is perfect.

How do I do this in DP4.6? Thanks.

P.S. Dont be offend Unicorns-Cubase LE came free with my Firebox.

Thanks

MIDI volume is CC #7. sounds like to need to change continuus data from #3 to #7.

There's a DP plug for MIDI tracks that allow to you re-assign continuous data. It's odd that your beringer is moving when recording though.... (I have an Akai wind synth/player and also a beringer) The Akai sends breath information on channel 2. If I switch it to #7 using the reassign plug, then the faders will move...

When you are playing back, do you still have record enabled on the track? That could send MIDI data to override what you've recorded...

Nate, I am so sorry I cannot comment intelligently on this right now. This should be my domain. I've used WX wind controllers for 17 years. But I'm uncomfortable talking about it when I can't actually confirm what I'm saying by trying things out, and at the moment I do not have Digital Performer installed. I've been revising my entire system, and it's still in that process. After archiving over 50 DVDs worth of material--all burned at 1x speed--I feel like I've been working in the salt mines for the past month. Now I have six hard drives empty and I'm almost ready to go. I'm installing a PCI Firewire bus, and adding one more drive, and some RAM, and then I'll get back on this horse.

I'll get DP reinstalled soon, and be up and running again. I have some music work to do first, but after getting my commitments out of the way, I'll be back at my little projects with the WX-5. Then I can help. Meanwhile, it looks like you're in good hands here.
